GP4 experience with Intel NUC

Does anybody have experience with gp4 and a Intel Nuc, good or bad? Nowadays I don't have the time to play modern games, so a game pc is a bit of overkill. That's why I'm looking for a Intel Nuc which is hopefully suitable enough for modding, testing & playing the gp4. Thanks.

Also very interested in this topic, thinking of getting a NUC soon too.

It's not a particularly demanding game. I play it on a cheap mini-PC with comically poor specs. I'm talking Intel Atom CPU, integrated graphics 400, and 4GB ram. The game can lag a bit running some of the heavier mods but other than that it runs surprisingly well. The CPU is the problem for me. The game should run flawlessly with the i5 in the NUC.

It can be very undemanding, but the fashion for super-hi-poly cars and tracks means playing the recent F1 seasons can be taxing, especially during a wt weather start for instance.

I'm considering this one: [ark.intel.com]

I have a Pi, there's no way it would run GP4 satisfactorily. They're fun to mess with and for small tasks but even web browsing is very slow compared to an Intel device.

Took the plunge and am now running on an Intel NUC 8i3. Added 8GB RAM and 250GB M.2 SSD. Runs GP4 very well, including mods.

It doesn't get 60fps at the start of a race in heavier mods (with cars.wad >300MB, say), but I can run almost any mod at 40fps in 1080p with PO <100%.

In order to get a lower PO, did you apply the 4GB patch on the GP4.exe file?

I have the 2GB limit .cap file in the CSM 'Patch' folder. Is there a 4GB version?

Here it is: [www.mediafire.com]

You have to apply it on the gp4.exe from the main grand Prix 4 folder ;-)

I have dropped the idea of a NUC. Last week I have bought an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G with 16GB RAM.

Just ran the gp4 with the s12 gpgsl csm mod for the 1st time on my new w10 pc in a 2560x1440 resolution; it was running smooth as a baby's behind, no crashes. I have only copied the folder of gp4, which was installed under w7, to another drive and did a fresh install of ZaZ tools. No need to adjust settings in w10 for both programs.

The game still amazes me today. :)
