ZaZ Tools are doing my head in!!! [FIXED! Thanks kedy89]

I am having an issue where I cannot start any of teh Zaz Tools!

I am trying to use CSM and TSM (which I have used many times YEARS ago) but every time I try and open I get a dx8 error - Install DirecX8 or higher Else this program won't run

I am running Windows 10 Pro 64bit and GP4 works very nicely (at 3440x1440 resolution) and this is my first problem.

I have indeed read the FAQ and downloaded MANY versions on ZaZ Tools from installers that just delete themselves once opened to the problem I am having now.

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Kind regards,
Iain.

I downloaded the original (in FAQ) and it's just in a folder which I placed on my desktop. I cannot find an exe installer.

What Version of Windows 10 do you use? 1809 or earlier? I'm playing with the tools on 1803 without problems and on 1809 (to which I upgraded) also.

Have you tried to set the csmcore.exe to the Windows 7 compatibility mode?

Windows 10 64-bit 1809 and I tried compatibility settings to Windows XP (SP2/3), Vista and 7 with no luck :(

Almost certain there should've been an installer, like in this one [www.grandprixgames.org]

Try that, and don't install it to program files! Windows will refuse to give writing permissions then. Something like C:\Games\Zaz will do it.

I can see on your screenshot that you set the "CSM.exe" into the compatibilty mode. This has not affect - please reset these settings to the standard ones and also disable "Run as Adminstrator". Then set the file below called "csmcore.exe" to "Windows 7 compatibility mode" without activtating "Run as Administrator".
Otherwise please try what Kedy said and don't install the tool into the Program Files order.

How strange, I do not have and I never went through these problems that all of you report.

PS: here Windows 10 Pro version 1809, build 17763.55 (x64) :-)

Just a guess here : Try to reinstall Dx8 as asked. It might be that there are some commands in it which are deprecated in newer versions of DirectX but still needed for ZAZ tools.

windows 10 does not need directx 8 because it already has a native top version, in this case version 12 ;-)

well, you may even be able to "install" a directx 8 in windows 10, but with that the system will be unstable and may even crash (blue screen) and / or can not process a reboot. it is not advisable to do so. :-)

If that's it, I'm happy I've never upgraded to 10. Much happy every day.

This is really doing MY head in!

I've downloaded the link of zaz tools kedy89 provided into the C drive.
Then I ran the installation...
I set csmcore to 'run as admin' and set compatibility mode to 'windows 7'
when i go to open csm, i get nothing... it just opens zaz tools folder.

I have activated directplay, and i've disabled windows 10's anti-virus and firewall.

I don't know what else to do??!

As an alternative to using csm, you could try making a non csm mod. I know it is "easier " to use csm but non csm mods are just as good and run better with very few issues. There are several tutorials in the thread named gp4faqs. Just a suggestion.
