Minimum Spec to run GP4?

Hello guys. I am currently still playing GP3-2000 and would like to play GP4. My pc is 2 years old with Pentium III 866 processor, 128mb RAM, and basic graphics card. GP3-2000 runs very well on my machine.

Will it be able to run GP4 at a decent quality level?

If not, what sort of upgrades should I get?

i have amd k6 500 mhz

and it struggles on that in free practice

though my computer is DIEING so go buy it and give it a try.

I think you could do with a bit more RAM, ram's going very cheap at the mo, 256MB only £14 I think, and probably a better Graphic Card

Cheapest option I think is the GeForce4 MX440 64MB at about £40, still, there maybe some decent ATi cards around which are cheap, I dunno because I've always stuck to Nvidia, never really looked into ATi.

At least as important - maybe more so - is the processor. If you want to enjoy GP4, you need to have the benefit of the delicious graphics and the power to operate all that with the physics etc. I upgraded to AMD 2400+ XP, before buying the game. I now also have a new Radeon 9700 pro. This means get excellent graphics with´most at max and good performance with 1280x1024 and 34-37 fps. It is that demanding. It is bad programming but it is a beautiful and totally addictive game. Oh.. and great forum, but you don't need to play the game to particiapte.

So I should be looking to get about 256mb RAM, AMD 2400+ processor and Radeon 9700 graphics card. Any ideas for the best places to buy these bits?

just get as much ram as you can possibly fit in your motherboard.

im stuck on 256 as my pc crashes when i put more in.

i have a slower processor, 800mhz, and i can get about 24fps on 800x600x16. Cant really be bothered updating my computer coz im a cheap student. But at least it looks better than gp3.

Fongu, I too am a student. Can you get the really nice graphics like we see on this forum, or do you have to tone it down a bit to run on your machine?

Well, I've got a P4 2.2Ghz chip, 512 DDR Ram and a 64MB Geforce 4 MX440 graphics card and the game runs like a dream (38fps and an average of 80 on processor occupancy). So, you could go a little lower than that and it'll still run nicely.

Lol, I'm a cheap student too so I know how you guys feel - I'm just lucky enough for my grandad to buy me a PC every 3 years!

So would I be able to just fit the new components (RAM, Graphics card and processor) into my desktop? Or will I need a new mother board too? (sorry I don't know much about upgrading PC's)

When i run it on the lowest possible everything, i can get just over 30fps and i use that when i wanna do 100% distance, coz i dont crash then :P. But on 800x600 i can put most things on no problem, but i have to say that its not as good as the screenshots around here, i mean i have a worse spec than you remember! Im running a P3 800mhz, 128mb of ram and the fab graphics card that is the nvidia riva tnt2. Anything in the distance is really blurred, but when its close up then it looks pretty good. But im pretty happy with that. When i first got the game over a year ago i could barely get it to work in free practice. But yeah, just use the search button and find out how people are tweaking their games.

Thanks guys, you have all given me an idea of what stuff I need. I have ordered the game and will see how it runs as it is, then make the necessary upgrades.

I'm still running this game with a Pentium III 450, 320 MB ram and a Geforce 2 GTS 32 MB DDR.(I know, it's a not really a eaqaly balanced combination) but I'm running at a resolution of 1024 x 768.

I'm not running this on my pIII 450, 256ram, 32mb tnt pci. It does however run well on my XP2000+, GeForce4 Ti4200, 256Mb ram.

You will need a new motherboard, a socket A motherboard, for an athlon.

I opened th ecase of my pc and had a look and on the graphics card it says "ATI" and "Graphics by Rage, 128 Pro"

Does this mean its a 128Mb graphics card, or is it just a name?

No thats just the name, I think my dad's got that in his computer, I think its a 32MB graphic card, so GP4 may possibly run, but you'll probably have to have low graphics.
