GPG Nations Cup Rd 1 UAE GP - Race Day

Part 2

Welcome back.

We return from the break to find Vukcevic trying for a move on Cremasco.

For now, Cremasco continues to hold onto his position.

Grimaldi was able to close in on Vukcevic after his move on Cremasco failed.

Tung has increased his lead over Ancevski.

Girard currently sits in 5th, and as the timing shows has a decent gap between himself and Kederer.

Another battle currently still on is between Silvestre and Ana.

Ana has managed to get ahead of Silvestre, leaving the San Marino driver to deal with Ihara.

At the rear of the field, the split shows that McGregor has lost time to Rodriguez.

The split also shows that Ancevski has lost time to Hatfield.

The gap between Coulthard and Girard is quite big.

Let’s check out the current standings as we go onboard with the Scotsman.

Unseen by the cameras, Silva has managed to get ahead of Nikolov.

Kederer gets the first round of stops underway by being the first driver in for his stop.

Also in are Ihara and Grimaldi.

Kederer rejoins in 17th.

De Boer also took his stop, and he has managed to get ahead of Ihara.

Coulthard is the next of the front runners in for his stop.

Vukcevic, Kuei, McGregor and Nikolov are all in as well.

Coulthard rejoins in 12th.

As Vukcevic rejoined the track, he came very close to making contact with Ihara. Had they made contact, it most likely would’ve been the end of the race for both drivers.

The pitlane is about to get super busy.

Ancevski rejoins in 4th.

Briere rejoins in 9th, which means he has managed to get ahead of Kederer.

Silvestre has rejoined the track, and straight away is on the defensive from De Boer.

Grimaldi is eyeing down Rodriguez in their battle at the rear of the field.

Tung is in for his stop.

Oh no, Briere is off the road.

His race comes to an end due to a Puncture. Such a shame for him.

Ana and Cremasco are both in for their stops.

Tung rejoins and still has the lead. Pure domination so far from the Chinese driver.

Tafuro is up to 3rd, but does need to take his stop. Hatfield probably won’t be too happy at the moment.

Cremasco is now inside the top 10.

With all drivers asides from Tafuro having made their first stop, let’s check out the current standings.

Being stuck behind Tafuro (who is yet to make his first stop) is not helping Hatfield at all.

He goes for a move on the outside, but that isn’t the best way to make a passing move. As such, Tafuro keeps his position.

The timing confirms that Hatfield is losing time to the cars ahead the longer he stays behind Tafuro.

Tung’s lead is now out to 4.1s.

With Hatfield being held up by Tafuro, it’s been helping Coulthard close in on them.

Hatfield tries again to get by, but it’s on the outside yet again. Again, Tafuro keeps his position.

Coulthard is probably enjoying watching the battle taking place ahead of him.

With his closest challenger being held up, Ancevski can breathe a sigh of relief as it allows him to focus on trying to claw back the time to the car ahead of him.

Now Girard is slowly closing in.

Hatfield has lost a tiny bit of time to Tafuro.

Finally, Tafuro enters the pits for his stop.

For Hatfield though, the damage has well and truly been done. Instead of challenging Ancevski for 2nd, he now has to defend from Coulthard.

Tafuro rejoins in 18th.

Now the lead is out to 6.3s.

Time for yet another break. We hope to be back again soon.

Nice! Singapore having a solid day
Team China

The race is going beautifully for Cheng. Took the lead on the first lap, and has managed to get the lead out to 6s. But the race is far from finished, so all he needs to do now is keep it on the track, have a trouble-free second stop, and hopefully that should be enough for him to go on and perhaps bring home a win.

wow I am quite slow!
At least Hatfield has been held up, luck is on our side for once.

Not yet. Remember Laguna Seca S3. ...and some others.

Not the strongest race weekend debut for Pryce in the Team Wales Red Dragon but we've picked up a few spots so far. Let's hope for a few more!!
GPG Nations Cup Rd 1 UAE GP - Race Day

Part 3

Welcome back.

The battle for the final podium position is still ongoing.

Further back we can see the distance covering positions 11 to 15.

For Pryce, the split shows that he has lost time to Vukcevic.

Kuei is currently in 16th. It’s not where she would want to be though, and with Nikolov not too far behind she can’t afford to make a mistake.

Nikolov also can’t afford to make a mistake as Tafuro is right behind him.

This is how the gap looks between the three cars.

Silva has managed to get by Grimaldi, although they came very close to making contact.

Pryce has lost a few positions since we last saw him.

As the replay shows, he got passed on the way into the corner.

Up ahead, De Boer looks to be in a bit of trouble.

Replay time. It seems there was contact made between Vukcevic and De Boer, which ends up leaving De Boer out wide.

After rejoining, De Boer had to take avoiding action to prevent running into McGregor or Rodriguez.

Back to the action, and Rodriguez is trying for a move on De Boer.

And he manages to get ahead.

Ana’s off the track and in the wall. What has happened to the Singapore car?

As the replay shows, Ana had pulled off to the side of the track, which means only one thing. The Singapore car has suffered a terminal problem.

Transmission Failure brings Ana’s race to an end after running so strongly in his first race.

The battle for 14th, 15th and 16th is pretty close.

Having gotten by De Boer before, Rodriguez now tries for a move on McGregor.

This time however, McGregor manages to stay ahead. In the background, Nikolov locks up and runs wide and now finds himself in battle with Pryce.

Pryce has another problem on his hands instead. Silva manages to get by, and Grimaldi is next in line to try for a move.

As we focus in on Silva, let’s check out the current standings.

Rodriguez has closed in again on McGregor.

He goes for a move up the inside, but isn’t able to get ahead.

We have a bit of action at the rear of the field.

Rodriguez tries again to get by McGregor, and this time succeeds in getting by.

Tung comes in for his stop, which starts the second round of stops.

Ancevski takes over the lead of the race.

Tung rejoins in 5th.

Rodriguez and Nikolov are also in for their stops.

Tafuro has managed to get by Kuei.

Replay shows how close both drivers came to making contact with each other. At least it ended up being a clean pass for the Italian.

Silvestre is chasing down Kederer.

After getting by Kuei, it didn’t take Tafuro long to be closer to De Boer.

Hatfield is the next of the front runners in for his stop.

More cars are also in.

Hatfield has rejoined just outside the top 5, just ahead of Kederer and Silvestre.

Vukcevic rejoined in front of Rodriguez, but the tyres are not up to temperature just yet so the Uruguayan should be able to make a move down the straight.

The top 3 are all in for their stops.

Kederer, Silvestre and Kuei are in as well.

Silva is in as well.

Looks like Vukcevic was lucky enough to hold off Rodriguez for most of the lap.

How heartbreaking for Hatfield. He had started on pole and has been ontrack for a good finishing position, but now his car has gone up in a cloud of smoke and fire. Meanwhile, the timing shows that Grimaldi has pitted as well.

Hatfield finally pulls off to the side of the track to retire from his home race.

Tung has retaken the lead once again.

Time once again for another break. We hope to be back again soon.

GPG Nations Cup Rd 1 UAE GP - Race Day

Part 4

Welcome back once again.

Ancevski is back up to 2nd.

With all cars having now made both of their stops (asides from Tafuro), let’s check out the current standings.

Tafuro may be running in 5th, but will need to make his second stop. He won’t want a repeat of what happened last time.

Vukcevic is now running inside the top 10. He should be pretty happy with how his race is going.

Cremasco has managed to close in on Tafuro. Can he do what Hatfield failed to do earlier and potentially get by the Italian?

Nikolov is up to 13th. Considering where he started the race from, it’s been a pretty good effort by the Bulgarian to move up through the field.

As we ride onboard with the race leader, let’s check out the current standings.

5 laps left to go.

Kederer is the next car in line behind the Tafuro/Cremasco battle.

The race just hasn’t been going the way Grimaldi was hoping it would go.

The battle for the final spot on the podium is out to 1.5s.

Cremasco has lost time to Tafuro, and that has allowed Kederer to close in more.

The replay might explain what happened.

Let’s see how the top 10 have moved since race start.

Cremasco has managed to close in once again on Tafuro despite the small error he made just before.

He gets even closer as they enter the long straight.

Cremasco goes to the inside.

But isn’t able to get ahead.

3 laps left to go.

Kederer won’t need to worry about Silvestre behind him, so that should allow him to focus on closing the gap down to the cars ahead of him.

Rodriguez and McGregor are back in battle once again.

With the race now into the final 2 laps, let’s check out the current standings again.

Tafuro has lost his position to both Cremasco and Kederer.

Replay shows that there was contact made between Cremasco and Tafuro, which left the Italian out wide allowing Kederer to get by.

Tafuro is really pushing the limit now as he still hasn’t made his second stop yet.

Silvestre sits ready and waiting to make a move on the Italian.

Grimaldi may soon end up being lapped by Tung.

Tung starts the final lap.

Tafuro is struggling at the moment holding off Silvestre, and as a result it’s allowing Ihara to close in on the battle.

From Ihara’s view, Tafuro has stayed out, which will mean a time penalty will be given to Team Italy for failing to make both stops provided Tafuro can bring the car home.

But according to the information from inside the cockpit, Tafuro may not even make it to the finish.

It’s been an absolutely outstanding race from Tung here today. He took the lead on the first lap, and since then has not looked back.

He comes across the line to win the UAE GP, his first win since the opening round last season.

We have a notification of a retirement for Tafuro.

Tafuro has stopped on the side of the track. He must’ve run out of fuel.

Ancevski comes across the line in 2nd.

Girard takes the final podium position.

The opening round has finally come to a close. Congratulations Cheng Tung and Team China, the winner of Rd 1. The last time Team China took the victory was back in Germany last season, which was handed to them as a result of Team Germany being handed a time penalty that cost them the win. Hopefully the victory should give the team the confidence they need to ensure they can keep the Team China entry at the pointy end of the field. Anyways, that brings our coverage of the race to an end. We hope you enjoyed the coverage, and we hope to see you all back here again when we bring you Rd 2 from Marina Bay in Singapore.

YESSS PODIUM IN FIRST RACE!!

Awww thats heartbreaking
I thought I had a Mercedes engine....... clearly it's a Honda.
Way off pace with 19th fastest lap, but considering 0 race boost and two accidents in the first laps I'm happy with 7th =)
