Tyres!!! Had a thought, not sure who can help...

I have been wandering about trying to make the tyres in gp4 as close sim to the current operational uses allowed this season.

Currently they have 6 tyre options available between wet and dry tyres. (super soft, soft, medium, hard, inters, wets)

GP4 as I just noticed has the following available. (dry soft, dry hard, intermediates, wet hard, wet soft, monsoon)

Seeing as they match up six for six.

Can someone shed any light on the following:

Which part of cars.wad matches up to each tyre currently in game
Is there any way of adjusting which tyres are chosen to instead of AI choosing option 3 for inters they then look at 5 for example.

Not too sure if this can only be done in mods if at all, but it was a brain wave and wanted to know if it could be actioned or if anyone has done it

Thanks

GPM
It's hardcoded if I'm not wrong.

What Eric said is afaik correct.

There seems to be 4 editable treads within the was. Do we know what specific ones they link too in game?

You would have to experiment on them somehow to see which one was which.

I bet wet, moonson and intermediate are for rain. ;-)

Nah I thought monsoon was more for bright sunshine :)

It is more intriguing because the 2013 beta tyres that are more commonly used, only have 4 colours over each tread, just wasn't sure if we could change the look of the monsoon tyres etc, to do all 6 but will then need coding somehow for when it does rain AI drivers pick for 5/6

Not sure if that makes sense?
Changing the texture for monsoon tyres is quite simple, you just need to edit the colour of the sidewalls (a simple hue editor can do this) of the tread_2 textures to a new colour. I used pink.

Thanks Schueyfan,

Do you happen to know what part relates to all 6 tyres.. As per first post

Also do you have a link to a hue editor?

SchueyFan - you mind sharing your monsoon texture? I think it's a really good idea.

Which tyre set are you using, I have only done it on 2012 so far but it is a simple enough change for any set - would have to check with authors first of course.

Well in the tyres folder of the wad itself, there are only 4 compounds (slick, inter, wet, monsoon), there are 2 slick textures (for Bridgestone and Michelin) but these have identical performance.

In the magic data we can change the compounds between hard and soft, however this area needs more research.

Hue editor is just a feature in many paint programs such as Photoshop, GIMP etc etc

Tyre types are mapped to tread textures like this (texture <- type):

0 <- 0, 1
1 <- 2
2 <- 3, 4
3 <- 5

Ok, but the point is to change the behaviour the tyres from wet to slick tyres.

Is that possible ?

My guess thats coded in the Gp4.exe.
