My GP4 FPS have gone to hell

After further upgrade, I am suffering with 22 fps. Have a look at my rig. I run on 1280x1024 with most everything on high. EN on static. Previous levels were at 39 fps (gef3 ti200). This can't be happening. :( Can anybody help? I can't figure out what's wrong; all other games work really well - radeon 9700 pro really does make a diference.

Try to run the TEST again, and play around with the FPS values...It should fix the problem.

In Settings> Direct 3D etc, you don't have these setting on High/full do you? "Anisitropic" it's called (On my Radeon 9000 64 MEG), with the two below called "Application preference" the other "Smoothvision" are off (or on 2 "times";)

Texture/Mipmamp/Wait for vertical sync/Truform....are all off. Infact everything is off. When I do turn them on FULL - (just to "see" what it runs like on maximum), my frame rates drops from a very smooth 32fps/PO 60-70, to something that is totally unplayable IE: half a dozen of fps...if that, with a PO of 200+. If you DON'T have these on full, and have them all on low, and have the sound settings all configured right etc, then there is something wrong somewhere (obviously). A Clean install, both Gp4 and Graphics card/drivers the would i suggest?.... You certainly shouldn't put up with 22 fps on a sate of the art GFX card, and 2400 Athlon. Your PC should EAT this game. My 2.66 Pentium 4 with Radeon 9000 does. so should yours. and more so.

Dare I suggest...a total format??

Delete f1gstate.bak en f1gstate.sav and try again ;-) Gp4 will make new ones for you. they sometimes get corrupted.

Nope. Playing around with the Fps settings didn't help.
AA is on min (x2) as is antisitropic filtering, Vsync off, Trueform off- no help.
Deleted F1gstate etc. : no help.
Did clean install + patch 9.6: no help.
Updated Radeon drivers- still no help
Reinstalled direct x 9.0a- nothing!

I am pissed off. :( :(

BTW, my Mark 3d 2001 score is now at 11400. The problem seems to be in the game... or

Thanks everybody anyway. Let me know if you have other suggestions.

Have you disabled your virusscanner? Sometimes the virusscanners are a bit too active...

Virus scanner off.
I have upgraded my graphics card from GEF3 ti 200 to Radeon 9700 pro
Win98 to win xp and added memory from 512mb 333 ddr to 1024.
I had to change my mainborad because of a fault.

As I said other games run fine. Actually I rember when I first installed GP4 with previous set up I was pissed off with the slow downs in it. I can't remember why it changed and suddenly I had reasonable fps (39) with all the goodies on and 1280x1024 res.

It is a weird piece of programming in many respects.

I have been trying out some of Johnny Laban's advice. He started an interesting thread with advice on this subject.

Anyway. I deleted the F1graphics and flgstate.sav files. This meant I lost my teams and performance info, reverted back to 2001 data. I also lost a lot more settings etc. I did not run the fps test in options/graphics. I ismply set the FP to 34.

A quick race demonstrated that the game ran on 34 for most of the time, pit straight fps were around 27 at times. The game still doesn't feel quite right, but it's much better than before the change.

Going back to my original problem when I still had GEF3 ti200 and only 512 333 ddr ram, I used Paul Boy's graphics file for a while (worked like magic) but later reinstated most of the options he removed like dust clouds etc). The game worked fine then. maybe I should try his again. Where can I find Paul Boy's F1graphics file?

Did you actually wipe your system clean and start from scratch? There are various issues when changing your graphics card from one to another (to do with the drivers). Most slowdowns would come from a graphics card from nvidia to ati or from ati to nvidia.

Just a thought
