Posted by GP_maniac
Hi

Please see below image.

[i659.photobucket.com]

For some reason Magnussens McLaren loads in the game as the willams graphics I have also installed to the cars.wad

However the other McLaren works perfectly

Also on the flip does anyone know how to remove the graphic in the top left with blue and green tiles.

Thanks

You mean the lap time display? Just press "M" once. :-) And you should check your cars.wad. Something went wrong there, maybe you have forgotten some files, I don't know exactly.
I even reloaded all the graphics I downloaded from the mp4-29 by Excalibur I believe it is.

Its strange one car works the other doesnt

The graphic is called microtime , press the key M and it will go away or open the gpxpdata folder in the main directory , open the gpxsat.ini and set ShowMicroTime in 0 . Regarding the drivers name , you have to fix your performance.ini , the performance must match with the helmets , teamart and so on . Clearly you have the team orders and their drivers in a wrong configuration . I advise you to download any 2013 no CSM MOD ( Josekast 2013 or Leomp 2014 at gp4forever ) to "study" how your configurations have to be set .
where would you find the performance.ini file ?

In most of the no CSM MODs into the gpxpdata folder
the only performance file I found was a notepad file with the gpxpdata folder.

All drivers seem correctly labelled and none seem to overlap.

It was a file I downloaded from another topic in the forum

I suspect you've installed the cars into slots that don't match the performance file. Can you post the performance file please?

OK. So the McLaren team (which is the car you said you're trying to install) is in slot 5 (it's the fifth team in your perf file). That means the cars should be installed into the bar slot (because BAR were the fifth team in 2001). So you need to rename all of the car shape (.gp4) files as follows:

car_bar_car1_lod_0.gp4
car_bar_car1_lod_1.gp4
car_bar_car1_lod_2.gp4
car_bar_car1_lod_3.gp4
car_bar_car1_lod_4.gp4

car_bar_car2_lod_0.gp4
car_bar_car2_lod_1.gp4
car_bar_car2_lod_2.gp4
car_bar_car2_lod_3.gp4
car_bar_car2_lod_4.gp4

Then add them into cars.wad using Easywad or whatever tool you prefer.

Then you must install the 2 driver helmets into the correct slots. Team 5 means drivers 9 and 10 so you must name the helmet textures as follows:

driver9_1.tex
driver9_2.tex
driver10_1.tex
driver10_2.tex

Normally the driver helmet textures also go in cars.wad, however there is a bug in GP4 for this team. Drivers 9, 10 and 21 helmets must be placed in the Grand Prix 4\Cars folder.

For your reference, here are the 11 slot names for 2001, in order: ferrari, mclaren, williams, benetton, bar, jordan, arrows, sauber, jaguar, minardi, prost.

If you want to get more advanced, you can actually change the slot names (and so change the shape filenames) using Team Editor but we'll come back to that later :).

I have installed the new McLaren as BAR as listed above, car 9 works fine it just seems car 10 is the only one making the duplicate error.

I will make the adjustment in regards to the helmets etc as I was not aware of the bug.

Just a quick question, what year Pirellis are the ones people are using the ones that are orange banded.

Start again with a new cars.wad and just install only the McLarens?

Would that having to re do all the things I have done with gp4tweaker

No because gp4 tweaker stores its data in the Grand Prix 4\gp4tweak_data folder and you're not going to delete that.

cars.wad only contains shapes and textures. It doesn't contain any config settings.

Also, always make a backup of any files you change so you don't have to redo anything. You can just restore your backup.

after just loading the mclarens it seems to have worked as well as the new location for the helmets

I have tried in the past but it does not seem to sync through to show the update
this may have been fixed a little too soon.

[i659.photobucket.com]

also I have the issue again where I seem to have three Williams cars, this time the extra one takes over one of the Caterham slots
