GPGSL S9 R13 - Austrian GP - A-1 Ring [Race online p205!]

Posted by GPGSL
I want to express my condolences to you and your family Stu, take care.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"If in doubt, Flat out."
Sorry about your news Stuart - real world stuff can suck sometimes. Our little world of fantasy here can be a great distraction sometimes - worked a treat for me over the last 18 months!

Back to the GPGSL for now...
With the delay in getting the qual and racing underway, the Demon team hit the paint booths, and put together their first draft of a potential Season 10 livery. Our team's sponsors have all been invited to take a look, and give their tick of approval. Our drivers too, have been told to get themselves in for seat fittings, to allow construction to hit full speed of the new S10 machines....

GPGSL Team Owner Debut - Melbourne, Season 8 - present
GPGSL Test Debut - Hungary, Season 4. GPGSL Race Debut - Adelaide, Season 5.
It's race day! Welcome everyone for the main event today at the A1Ring. SCR's Joseph Gilson scored his second pole in a row, ahead of the two Aston Martins, and he'll sure hope to convert it to a better result than in Monza. Championship leader Greenhalgh only starts from 12th, so Gilson and championship 3rd Jalving have the big chance today to close the gap to the triple champ. The weather reports predict some rain in about one and a half hour, but that shouldn't affect the race. With the cars returning from the formation lap and lining up on the grip, let's go straight to the track.

The five red lights are on

Go go go! Great starts for Gilson and Maverick

But it's Elleker who takes the lead on the outer line through turn 1

The field rushing towards turn 2

Greidanus in 12th, under attack by Greenhalgh

And the Australian gets past

We can see Jalving up in 4th already

Karjalainen and Moinet fighting for 19th

Mathew tries to take 9th from Scala

And the Italian has lost massively on the outer line there

Greenhalgh right behind Mathew, while Scala has to defend against Kederer

Greidanus the big winner in this situation, from 12th to 9th within two corners

Cartwright has Pedersen right behind him

van Renselaar makes the move on Jalving in turn 1

Schieder passes his teammate in the same place

Greenhalgh with a mistake in turn 1, he dropped back behind Kederer to 13th

And now loses out to McCarthy and Allington as well

Horváth too passes the Australian

Allington very late on the brakes, almost hits McCarthy

Hayes also with a small mistake, but she was already in last place before

Jalving loses another position as Cartwright gets past

Greenhalgh far away from a points position at the moment

Schieder runs wide in turn 8 and drops back behind Pedersen again

Greenhalgh now under pressure from Karjalainen and Warrington

Rodríguez has crashed into the back of Nell! The German had run wide, and as he returned to the track Rodríguez had no chance to avoid him

That's the end for Rodríguez' race

Nell has to pit for a new front wing, luckily he is able to go straight to the pits, and doesn't have to do another lap

The marshall rushing to the One car, to get it out of the way quickly

Schieder forming a train behind him

Contact between Schieder and Greidanus as the latter tries to get past in turn 1

There's a wheel rolling over the track

It's from the Shadow of Kederer

Both Shadows out of the race, the disastrous season for the former top team continues. There's also a part of a Demon wing

Debris and tyres all over the track now, an extremely dangerous situation

Onboard with Hayes, and look just how far one of the tyres has flown

Allington comes in to pit for a new front wing

That's Karjalainen trying to pass McCarthy

He makes the move, and Greenhalgh now too with a chance

and he gets past

Onboard with Maverick, who's trying to close up to Gilson

Greenhalgh runs wide in turn 8

That's gives Hayes, who has gone past both JHRs, a chance to pass him

But Greenhalgh stays ahead

Onboard with Gilson now, and Elleker his almost out of sight for him

Moinet side by side with his teammate

Gets past and is now in 16th

Not for long though, as McCarthy retakes his position the next lap

Karjalainen with an early stop due to throttle problems

Lap 17, and Hayes starts the regular stops

Gilson and van Renselaar heading towards their crews

Horváth and Moinet come in as well

Elleker pits from the lead one lap later

McCarthy also in for his stop

Lap 20 as Jalving and Warrington come in

Gilson passes Greenhalgh for 6th, but the Australian is yet to pit

Maverick, Pedersen and Mathew in the pits now

That gives the lead back to Elleker

Gilson managed to stay ahead of Maverick

Greenhalgh now in for his stop

Schieder as well on the way to the pits

van Renselaar has dropped back behind Cartwright during the stops

Let's have a look at the standings

Nell comes in for a second time, it seems they didn't fill him up when he pitted for a new wing earlier

Same goes for his teammate Allington

Maverick catching Gilson

Mathew takes 8th away from Scala

In the meantime Greenhalgh overtook Karjalainen

And Maverick now up in 2nd, while Gilson has his teammate right behind him

van Renselaar tries to take 4th

and he makes the move

Horváth currently in 10th place

Jalving slowly gets closer to Cartwright and van Renselaar ahead of him

Now he tries it past Cartwright

and he makes it

Last lap for Jack Elleker

That's Pedersen almost losing it in turn 8

Warrington takes 10th from Horváth in turn 1

Greenhalgh only in 13th, that means no points for him today

And Elleker takes the win! Supreme drive from him today

Maverick makes it an AMR 1-2

Gilson completes the podium and takes the lead in the championship

Last manoeuvre of the race, McCarthy has passed Karjalainen

And that's it, thanks everyone for watching! See you again in Brno!

So it seems like Demon has the fastest car in the races. Too bad we can't buy ourselves anything from that, qualifying went miserable for me, start was bad as well, of course there had to be a crash for both of us (I'm sorry, Carlos, it's just not a good idea to pull back onto the track directly, I thought there was enough space for us). We need to chain it together to gather the points we can get with the fast car.
Some conclusions

RD point of view:
This version of the track shouldn't be used anymore imo. The cc-line using the tarmac runoff in turn 1 caused some problems, meaning that very often when there was an passing attempt (successful or not, didn't matter), at least one of the cars was slowed down massively. Especially in the opening laps this was a problem, as the cars close behind could immediately get past as well (see Greenhalgh or Scala for example). As this was the version of the S7 trackpack I simply assumed that it'd be fine and didn't do any test races, else I'd have taken another version.

Personal:
1) The 2 seasons testing were a complete waste of time, seeing that even rookies are doing equal/better than me. Might as well have taken the first race driver offer I had back then. Results would probably have been the same.

2) This season is even worse than last, and I'm done with it. Whenever I think that it finally turns for a better, it goes "Bam, right in the face!"

We've got a testing seat ;)

That race was terrible though. Ed was all over the place after Palace did one over on Everton - again - over the weekend.

Credit to Charrel who hung in there and picked up some points to stay in touch with Gilson in the championship and complete a solid damage limitation job in terms of the all important teams' championship.

Seriously though, how many wins is that for Elleker now? I was laughing when Sevastien was dropped, but not anymore. John, you need a hurry-up mate ;)

Season 9: Constructors' Champions
11th is not bad at all in my situation...
Good result for Gilson to help him keep in the championship fight. Could've been 2nd, but AMR were just a bit quicker this time round. Championship wise, it's going to be a close one over the next few rounds.

Letting everyone know now that I plan on running the next round. I'm done taking a break away from the RD seat, so there's no better way for me to get back in the seat. I'll ask for the track download when it's the right time to do so.

The race should be declared invalid. The whole cc-line at T1 is wrong. What a horrible race once again.

Woah, in 1 word a crazy race! I had a very good start, from there on our strategy was to go for safe today, with a fast stint in the end to..

During the race I saved tyres so I could push at the end, but P5 not wat we were hoping for but still a solid result. I gained some points on Ed, and Gilson isnt to far away.

I agree it should be fixed for the next time, but its not like there are 10 dnf's or something.. The chance was the same for all that you would get slowed down, just 3 dnf's is not the worst

I knew from the start that Jack is quick, but I didn't expect to lose the No. 1 driver status so quickly again. Nonetheless, it's a great result for the team and that's what matters. This seriously brings us back into the WCC fight for P2, at least. And rest assured, I'll fight back next season and won't leave the field so easily for Jack. It's a pity that once again it couldn't be a win for me, but I was held up by Gilson into the first corner after having had the best start of us three, and so Jack could slip through and had a free drive. Congrats mate.

Only so much to this: We've had certain races at Zaandvort, for example, where the cars were all over the place as well and the results counted. So ... ;)
I agree, however, that this version either shouldn't be used for following seasons or needs some serious fixes for next season.

well...i feel i cant really be mad about 7th but i had hoped to climb a few positions in the race... :(
Well, looks like I missed nothing by not racing.

I'm publicly announcing that I'm happy to let Matt take the race seat for the rest of the season; I'm happy to trundle around in practice sessions getting some form together for next season, so I'd like to stick with that.
