i installed melbourne 2012, and updated this track with new magic data. All cars should be on 2 pitstop strategy according my magic data file and pitlap editor however when i start the race some cars are still on 1 pitstop strategy??? How is this possible?

Ditto for me, I was going to post the very same question, I tested for a while but gave up out of frustration.

think I'm doing it right....

Are you doing a 100% race? If so, what are the amount of laps?

When you import the same magic data with C-Magic, do you have the same problem?

Yes, 100 % 58 laps, How does the CMagic thing work when using CSM ? It all seems a bit over convoluted. How do you allow for 50% race ?

When I "Import Defaults" using TSM does the info come from the circuits.dat or the GP4.exe ?

EDIT: Right it comes from the exe afai can tell

I think I'll leave this alone and wait for Lo2k to add the function to builder ,otherwise I'll turn this forum blue....

[www.grandprixgames.org]

It'll be so much easier editing the .dat file directly, makes sense really, I'm not stupid, I just don't get why something so straightforward should be so nerdishly over complex.
I'm just thinking of new users and stuff like this putting people off.

Hmm, actually I think I've figured out the problem, If you start the game with CSM then go to the ingame options and drag the race length slider from 20% to 100% the problem with 2 stops occurs.
If you start the game with CSM set the race length to 100%, quit and restart via CSM, the race length is set at 100% and everything works as it should.

So to conclude, set the race length to 100% "before" you run the game after editing magic data, and all should be ok....I think ;-)

sorry for my impatience hot

EDIT: I'm sure there was a mod kicking around that you could set all this up with the CSM menu. but can't remember where I saw it, maybe that's the ultimate solution. ?

Hi
I think I know the solution and this is what I did. I opened .dat file using GP4 builder and changed the number of laps as zero. Then I opened the lap and pit editor and updated the number of laps I wanted to have in the race and also changed the pitstops as 2 for 50% of cars and 3 for the other 50% and it worked for me in the game.

You can't edit the no. of laps in GP4 builder. You should download pit&lap editor tool from Ale's page website. After downloading open the editor and click on import data from GP4 and the default number of laps for full race of all the tracks would be displayed. Since you have replaced the original melbourne track with the updated one the icon for melbourne would shown as red (modified) instead of green. Just choose the melbourne track which would show the default pitstops and the percentage of cars. You have to just change the no. of laps you want to have, percentage of cars and pitstops you would want to be done (one, two or three pitstops) and also within how many laps the pitstops should be done. After that just click on the export button on top and close the editor. but keep in mind you have to open the .dat file with GP4 builder and update the number of laps as zero before using using pit & lap editor. This will work if you have inserted the dat file directly into GP4 folder circuits folder. I'm sure it would work.

I think it's much easier to use GPxTrack to edit the number of laps. E.g. for Melbourne:

S1CT01.txt
[Tags]
Laps=58
Name=Albert Park
Country=Australia
Adjective=Australian
Year=2001
LengthMeters=5302
LapRecord=1:30.585, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Williams, 12-03-2000
LapRecordQualify=1:29.369, Jacques Villeneuve, Williams, 11-03-2000

I would like to know if you have inserted the melbourne 2012 wad and dat file directly into the GP4 folder or are you using TSM to lead the track?

I would like to know if the Melbourne track icon in pit&lap editor is in red colour. If possible could you please post a screenshot of the editor after inserting the track in gp4 folder. I played with Melbourne 2012 track yesterday and it worked for me. Also try opening the editor as administrator and make changes and see if it is working.
