That is a great idea, do this as Eric suggests.

Hi EricMoinet & Mortal

believe me or not, this idea/suggestion ran through my mind, & a few days' back googled to check if Win XP is possible to run on same PC with main OS as Win 7. It seemed possible, but did not give it much thought, as was still hoping that perhaps someone would come up with a solution.

Of course myself being not too tech-savvy, I will need someone to install Win XP for me. (though I will find someone for this)

So, I am still suspecting it is either a Win 7 securities' issue, or else something to do with the registry.

Now the questions is, when I install Win XP, does the Win XP installation have to be in a 'different drive/partition'? (am not sure how this works that's y I'm asking) & if I kinda have problems with the registry, does this stil affect the installation on Win XP??

Thanks once again all!

Yes you need a second partition. Follow the guide given by Turbo Lover, it explains everything easily.

Turbo Lover & EricMoinet

in the section of "Create and format hard disk partitions." - if I decide to partition a particular hard drive, would I need to format THE WHOLE hard drive before installing Win XP?

No, only the partition where you want to install XP.

I suggest you to make a safe copy of your whole hard drive before doing anything else. Download Clonezilla for example. In the case anything goes really wrong you will be able to reinstall your computer at its previous state.
I would also suggest to use Gparted to partition your hard drive, easiest to use than usual MS tools.

What you have to do after that is reduce the size of your Seven partition, then create a new partition in the free space and format it as NTFS or FAT32. After that you can use your XP CD to install XP on your new partiton.

Hint: to make it easier to recognize, make your partitions with a different size because MS tools won't tell you what is on each partition.

hi EricMoinet & all those who tried lending a hand......

again UNSUCCESSFUL (N)

I managed to partition h/d - which I must say was NOT difficult.

The difficult part was the scary blue screen 'BIOS'.......

Well with some sweat, I managed to follow the 'howtogeeks' instructions & install Win XP on the new partition.

I now have 2 OS Win 7 64bit, & Win XP - & I can choose which OS I need when booting.....

I also installed GP4 default from CD, patches, as per standard installation, ZaZ Tools

BUT.....................................

Again when it comes to install a mod through CSM, CSM DOES NOT RESPOND........

I am literally out of ideas... I guess we have done everything possible, so far........

The only other thing on this PC, I guess is to format WHOLE PC, because now I am suspecting that as BOTH Win 7 & Win XP are installed, & neither OS 'accept' installing a Mod through ZaZ Tools, I think it could be something with securities or most likely the registry!!!

That's the worst case scenario I guess.......

As other games installed I have Microsoft FS9 & FSX installed, so could be any add-on installed there, could be conflicting/creating an error???

Simply = LOST!

Don't do that !
For me it's not the computer, neither the registry (XP & Seven have separate registries and you have a clean XP install that can't be corrupted).
I think you have something wrong with ZAZ Tools; corrupted exe or wrong way to install/use it.
You'd better download it again from a safe place. I don't remember which is the site where you can download it but I'm pretty sure someone will help you for that.

pippo, I also start to think that you have another problem there, cause the fresh XP installation would have solved ANY registry or compatibility issues. Since you wrote that you're not this much into computers, I'd like to have a look on it myself. Your problem MUST be solvable somehow. Do you use Skype? If so, PM me your skype name, please.

Eric

I even downloaded another CSM.exe & installed it without problems...... again not successful.....

One thing...... I have Flight Simulator FS9 & FSX installed, & some addons are installed. Could they interfere or conflict with GP4??? I never had problems before........ :(

Thanks my friends!

Probably not. It is really strange what happened to you. Let's hope JohnMaverick can help you to resolve the issue.
