totally re installed gp4, and patches and csm replaced the exe worked great until halfway into a 100% race,

GP4 is proven to work on Win 8. Is the exe set to XP compatibility? Noted that it appears to be running on a laptop with Intel on-board graphics, the HD3000 is average, like a low-end Nvidia or AMD. The GP4 graphics engine is over ten years old, so your chip, in theory, should run it. However, running a high texture csm mod may well be a different story. I would also look at the D3D settings and turn off any unwanted filter settings, or set application to choose only if you have the availability of that choice. GP4 does not need anisotropic filtering or vsync. Run DXDiag and check that all tabs are good as your sound has generated a 3D error in the log.
Look at updating sound and graphics drivers, set a restore point to roll-back just in case.
I would try to run a 100% race, no drivers selected, original GP4 via gpx with verbosity enabled to generate a log if it crashes. If it passes the test, you will know the mod is likely to be causing the failure.

Right click on your GP4 exe and go to Properties, Compatibility tab. Set compat mode to XP and also "Run as Admin".
