OK, this game is seriously pissing me off now.

It crashes to desktop after loading the track up when I have done nothing but install the official patch. Not every time though. I can usually get one load out of it before it crashes second attempt, but sometimes I can't get that first load even.

I wonder if it may be my f1graphics.cfg so if anyone has a good one please give it to me.

I've tried updating drivers so its not that.

Specs are:

Athlon XP2000+
GeForce4 Ti4200 64Mb 4xAGP
256Mb PC133
Windows 98

That should be enough for someone with a roughly similar system to help me out.

Have you got a Mobo with the VIA chipset? It COULD just be that you need a different version of the 4in1's if ya have. And that doesn't nessesarily mean the latest...my machine is unstable with all versions EXCEPT the 437's

1.4ghz Thunderbird @1.5ghz
512meg Ram,
Original GF3 @220/500
Hansol 920 19" Monitor
16X DVD Rom
24X10X40 CD-Rewriter
Audigy
30 & 82gig Hard drives
Networked with the kids 2 PC's :-)

I'll try that.

Isn't it surprising that every other game is stable with them.

Damn Infogrames, why did they rush it?

i Have near the same config:
Athlon 2000+
GeForce4 TI4200 128Mo
512Mo PC2700
Windows XP

And my GP4 had always run perfectly.
About drivers, i use VIA 4 in 1 4.45 and Detonator 41.09.

You wrote that all you did is installing the 9.6 patch, do you mean GP4 was working without it before ?

For some reason the game sometimes locks itself or crashes when I have played another game before. Especially Codemasters games (TOCA 2 or TRD). It never makes any problems when I play it right after a windows restart. :s

This is what I thought. If TRD causes such problems, why not other games as well? Maybe Codemasters are not the only game developers who are not Masters of their Code (if you allow the pun). I would advice all people who have problems with Gp4 crashing or locking to start the game only after a Windows restart to make sure no remains of other games are still blocking the memory or caches.

Hmm Lo2k

That's funny. Coz I was on them, and it didn't run.

I've gone for 4.43s and gone to the new nVidia drivers 43.something. I haven't tried yet will report back.

Also. I never played it before the patch, because I had a poor system and was waiting for an upgrade, which is still in progress. I tried running a fresh install without the patch and it runs yes, but I get less fps.

I know my memory is holding back the rest of the system, and my mobo can take DDR as well, so once I get some cash I'll get some.

If the worst comes to the worst I'll just play it unpatched, and hope I don't get any of the wee annoying things like pitstops that never end.
