Hey all,

Following Highroller's topic, I thought you could give me some advise aswell.

My system:

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
BIOS: ASUS - 30303031
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz
Memory: 512MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400
Display Memory: 64.0 MB

I'd like to upgrade my video card, and I was thinking about the G4Ti4200 VTD8x (MS-8894) ( [www.msi-computer.nl] )

What are your oppinions on this and if you think another card is better then please tell me aswell.

My budget is around 200$ - 250$.

How about going for a Radeon?

I have a GF4Ti4200, so am just going by what I've read, but before the GeForceFX the Radeons blew GF4 away.

Here's a link to a 9500 Pro 128Mb for $180:

9500 PRO

If you have a look at this site and search for 9700 you can see some prices for the 9700 from $230, and the 9700pro which was $299.

Someone said the AtI Radeon 9000 128 mb series are good, not sure though.

I forgot that the 9600Pro is out as well, and it is *slightly* better than the 9500

I've got a Radeon 9000 (64 MB Non-pro) - and works a treat with my Intel 2.66 CPU. I notice that most, (very most) of users here have Geforces in there system, but not sure why Radeon's aren't on many peoples list. They are fast. Very fast. On bench scores I've seen, a Radeon 9000 will be faster than any "non- TI" Geforce's out there. A TI4200 will be faster than a Radeon 9000, but not as fast as a Radeon 9500 - which is not as fast as a TI-4600 - but faster than a TI-4400. The Radeon 9700 is faster than any geforce....savve the Ge-force FX - which is slower than the Radeom 9800 - which can be had for £360 qwid from PC world:) - the Geforce FX that is.

Quoute by Bazza ////I have a GF4Ti4200, so am just going by what I've read, but before the GeForceFX the Radeons blew GF4 away.. ////

The Radeon soon claimed the Title back with the 9800;)

Go for the Sapphire Ati Radeon 9500 pro if you can get away with it.

1) It is DX9 compliant.

2) It can compete in straightline performance with any Ti4600, and nocks the socks of the Ti4600 if you enable antialias or anisotropic filtering.

3) And the final cherry on your pie is: you can find the 128MB version cheaper than a Ti4200.

Thta's the one I linked to Morbid, but it appears they change theor links a lot. Probably because they change the prices in real-time, depending on supply and demand.

But, ye, the Sapphire 9500 Pro, 128Mb, 8x AGP, is a good start!

would be cool to use the antialias and anisotropic filters on my Ti4400 more but they eat it's performance. One of these filters greatly increases the quality of image, taking away virtually all edges!! Wiould probably have got the Radeon if I'd have been wiser....

I've just bought a GF4 Ti4600.... waiting for it to be delivered! Who here has one, and can you tell me what sort of performance you get from it on GP4?!

LS had one. Ask him.

On a second thought, better don't ask him. His card did not run Gp4 at all and died on him before he could even try to load new drivers.

Apart from that the card is great.

No doubt: Buy Radeon 9500 pro or 9600 pro. I got an 9500 pro for about 2 months now and it's simply amazing. Go to tomswardware and see the review of performance they made...With antialiasing on , this beauty beats ti4600 from Nvidia... I play GP4 @ 1024*768, full details, environmental lightning on, mirrors on (full detail), and antialiasing 4x. And I've capped the game to 25 fps ( human eye can't detect more than that :P ).
BTW, i had a gforce mx440 before and I thought it was good, until I got the Radeon...
My specs:
AMD XP 1700+
512 DDR 266
Radeon 9500 pro

Dont waste your money on graphics cards, GP4 is CPU limited.

Now, if you play other games too, then thats a different story....

i can not use radeon cards as they are not over keen with motherboads with VIA chip sets. They work on some but not others and mine is one of them i did try.

I had an 8500LE and thought it was better than my current gforce4 ti

So i've noticed! I didn't buy it just for GP4 though! ;)

I'm about to upgrade my cpu too. Probably a P4 2.8Ghz or something!

the card is good for flight sim games and other games but on GP4 is will not make a huge difference.

As i said i tried a gforce2 and then a gforce4 and gained 8 fps but it does make it run a bit smoother.

The best card i had for GP4 was the radeon 8500le but my new motherboard does not like that card :(.
