Hey guys!

My old thrustworthy PC finally gave up the ghost and terminated it's life 2 weeks ago.
Now I bought a new one, a laptop this time with these specs.

Processor: AMD A6-3420M APU HD Graphics 1.50 GHz
RAM: 4GB
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Graphics cards: AMD Radeon HD 7670M and AMD Radeon HD 6520G
Dedicated Video Memory: 1536 MB

I've tried GP4 out and I found two problems.

First one, processer capacity (when you hold down the O button) always shows over 200

And the graphics. Still using the same f1graphics.cfg but for some reason the textures are not as sharp as they used to be.
Which settings should I change to get back the sharpness you can see in my screenshots?`

Thanks

Hey there,

To Question 1) I have an idea. As you say that your old computer was in fact that, 'old', I suppose it was still a single core CPU. I haven't checked the processor of your laptop, but with these specs I'm very sure it's a multicore CPU. GP4 doesn't like multicore CPUs. So, in case you haven't done yet, choose CPU '0' in gpxpatch and all should be good.

To Question 2) I'm not entirely sure about that but have some ideas. Could you please post more specs concerning aspect ratio of your old monitor and the monitor of your new laptop?

my previous PC had a dual core processor and I think this new one is a quad core.

I fixed the graphics settings for now by downloading the latest drivers.
However, the PO is still high despite choosing CPU '0' in gpxpatch (always been running on that setting)

Im downloading the patched original game from GP4Central right now, will see if that works.

Otherwise I would love if someone can give me solutions to my problem. I can't play GP4 in this condition
and Im not ready to give up GP4 yet :(

Play gp4/gpxpatch in compatible mode set to windows xp service pack 2 or vista, gp4 in my laptop didn't like windows 7 and PO was high but with compatible mode set to xp or vista po is around 50-80 in fullgraphics.

Thanks Vesa, but it still does not solve the problem.

Should I set the same mode for GPxPatch aswell?

I vaguely remember enabling "start Gpx in debug mode" on high verbosity inside gpxpatch helps.
Fingers crossed.

Did you try to run gpx_patch on all cores?

Otherwise i think 1,5GHz isn't enough for all the super cars and tracks from 2012.

Very strange, but with gp4 it usually is lol...check that you don't have any backround programs running that wont need to be there when you run gp4...like firewall, virus programs, or something else that takes too much computer memory usage. Also post your f1graphics.cfg here for me to take a look at so that I can see if there is something to fix.

the thing is that right now I have a standard normal res 1998 carset installed, the cars.wad is only 140mb so that should not be the problem.

I've tried with 4 CPU's, no difference.

When it comes to background programs, I've never had that problem before

Also try manually tweaking fps inside game see of that changes anything.

that did not work either. When I made a video test ingame, the game wanted to use 18 frames per second with everything on high

I don't have Catalyst center installed for some reason. I only have AMD Vision Engine Control Center on my PC and I can't change those settings in that program.

I have two more things to try out if we can't fix this before.

First, I was going to try download the Grand Prix 4 from Gp4Central with the 1.02 patch and try that one. Right now , that download is broken though.

If that does not work, I was thinking about reinstalling the game from the CD and patch it myself and see if that makes a difference.

I have only copied the already installed game from my old harddrive to my new one. That may be the problem.
But when I did this from my old XP PC to my last Vista PC, I never had any problems.

I notice you have a Radeon graphics card, I had similar problems when I first got my new pc with a Radeon card. Ruben (Turbo Lover) sent me this f1graphics.cfg that fixed alot of my problems. I have since disabled video walls too.

Hope it helps :)

What's the problem? It seems to be OK to me. You might need to use a download manager such as FDM to download it. It's a big file and my cheap cost-effective web host sometimes drops the file transfer.

Eric, I made some small changes to your f1graphics.cfg but doubt they will make any difference, try it anyway F1graphics. Is your laptops screenresolution 1366X768? in your f1graphics.cfg it is, sometimes using lower screenresolution than your desktop actually is will cause higher PO in gp4.
