Yes, I think 8192 is exactly the limit, although I never tested that. But I remember Laurent having mentioned this number once ;-).

When i have 5 of more cars with textures of the size 4096/4096 my PO goes towards unplayable so i see no point at all with even the size 8192, has anyone else tested a full cars.wad with all 4096 or higher textures ?

I play with 2048x2048 textures on an old PC (2003) and everything is smooth, and good enough looking for my need :) And my need is : one car on track at a time in time trial mode ;)

Of course 8192x8192 are lots of pixels. I think everyone is able to decrease texture resolution by oneself. It should easily be possible with every simple image editing software ;-).

For me 2048x2048 are enough. I can't see any difference with higher resolution.

To be honest I didn't expect a discussion about what resolution you are loving or you are using ...;)
Even if I agree that a 4096x4096 is a reasonable maximum for a car release with 1 main texture
more a texture is available at a high resolution, more the quality will be high, even if you decrease it...

Decrease a High texture size is easy and keep a minimum of quality.
Try to increase a medium texture size is a disaster. (Look at the toro in the shots of my first post for a good example...;) )
It's for this reason, the very large majority of painters ( me included) are doing their work at high resolution
then divide by 2 (or 4) the size of the texture(s) for the release.....

So, If I well understood what you said, I should release the main texture of this STR at 2048x2048....

For your information, it will be a resolution divided by 3 in comparison with the STR7 Beta released some month ago
Remember that a car which is coming with 4 textures 2048x2048, is exactly the same than 1 texture 4096x4096....

I have used these textures for couple of weeks now, have posted screenies here...surprised some people didn't knew about these :D maybe they also don't know that converted f1 2012 cars can be downloaded from gp4forever and then you just need to download textures from racedepartment, open them with ryders tool then flip main and alphatextures that both are there and you are done.
