Apparently a statement on his injuries is due soon - hope he's not too badly hurt.

It was due at 2pm (GMT), but has been put back to 4pm apparently.

From Autosprint.it (my translation)
"Kubica has undergone an emergency surgical intervention because of an internal hemorrhage, but the situation seems to be under control. In the meantime, a surgeon specialized in hand-interventions has been called in order to have the hand relieved. This means that Kubica is risking more than the mere participation to the 2011 championship. The main cause of the injuries reported by the Pole seems to be the guard rail that penetrated into the car. That's why t took more than an hour to extract him. In the meantime, the Renault team declared that Bruno senna is the main candidate to replace Kubica.

@#$%& guys, this is bad. One of my favourite drivers, he's just blindingly fast.

I really hope the reports aren't true and that he doesn't lose the hand.

Shadows of Nannini's accident, which was career-ending, effectively.

Let's all hope it's not as bad as it sounds.

From Ansa.it

SAVONA - The edge of a guard rail on the Testico rally track has stopped the race of the young F1 pilot Robert Kubica. The accident occurred this morning at 8,30. When extracted from the cockpit, Kubica was conscious but seriously injured. Then he was airlifted to the hospital at Corona di Pietra Ligure, where he underwent a surgical intervention to reduce fractures and a big internal hemorrhage.

Kubica's team's doctor and the expert in hand surgery from Savona hospital are present. Kubica's right hand is seriously compromised
Carabinieri (military police) are now trying to determine the dynamics of the accident and kept the car to check whether the crash was caused by a mechanical problema. Witness declarations from the public and navigatr Jacub Gerper are being gathered.

It seems Kubica undertook a high speed turn close to a guard rail. Meybe due the tarmac covered by ice or some irregularity the Skoda drifted and deviated 80 degrees on the right from its trajectory. The car hit the edge of the guard-rail that penetrated in the car and smashed the left hand door and bent the roll-bar structures. The car stopped against the wall of a small church

Kubica was blocked in the cockpit. Uninjured Gerber immediately called for help. An ambulance got to the scene in a few minutes and firemen extracted Kubica, still conscious. A fire department helicopter lifted Kubica to the hospital at Santa Corona where he was operated. The intervention is still in progress. It is believed that doctors are trying to save the injured hand.

Come on, Robert, come on...

Judging from other F1 drivers' recoveries, e.g. Massa in 09, if he's OK and his hand can be repaired, I'm hoping he makes a reasonably quick and good recovery. Doesn't look like that now though...

From the newspaper "Il Secolo XIX": the rumours about the amputation of the right arm have been denied. Anyway, the situation is still complicated, as Prof. Igor Rossello, hand surgery specialist, is in the operating room.

The worst of it is probably his hand not his arm and leg, the hand will take the longest to recover and if he can no longer grip the wheel and have full movement he wont be able to drive and f1 car.

You can now see why Mclaren do not let their drivers do these things.

I hope Kubica makes a full recovery.

Am already getting fed up with people saying this is fate and Bruno will drive the car a Lotus with the same colours as Senna.

still, you cant deny that the coinccidences became too much . renault becoming lotus renault, the colours being make like the retro lotus, the senna going to them exactcly now, UNFORTUNATELLY OF COURSE the kubica crash( god i hope he will be ok) and boullier saying a few days earlier that if a reserve driver is needed to drive it will be senna. Maybe you have to put also the fact that senna came back to racing after driving the LOTUS of his uncle at 2004 brazilian gp or something.

Just read something, this is horrible. I hope this isn't like the accidents of Laffite or Nannini, both forced to retire due to accidents. I'm really really worried, although Massa is my favourite driver, Kubica could perfectly be the second one, and I was really looking forward to seeing him with the Lotus Renault.

I have to agree with Marcl....when there is a very good F1 driver lying in hospital (or any decent human being come to that) with multiple fractures...the rumours about fate or whatever are just not appropriate.

If this was fate...it would have done something kinder like Senna showing some quality in the HRT and being noticed by Renault....or making the HRT faster to get him notced.

I hope Kubica makes a speedy recovery. Who else is there to surprise us on a Saturday?

If Kubica cannot drive I actually hope they get Kimi or someone like that rather Bruno in the car.

Despite the plethora of reserve drivers at Renault, Heidfeld would be the obvious choice.

A team of Petrov and Senna would be a waste of what's prematurely expected to be a decent car. Not that Heidfeld is anything particularly special, but his experience would be worth a million Senna's in developing the car at this crucial stage of the season.

If this had happened mid-season, then it would be a different matter.

I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to contract Heidfeld. I really believe he is still capable of driving in Formula 1. Still, I hope that Kubica won't be to long away from the F1-races.
