A Serious question on how we, and the FIA judge drivers (Contains Korean GP Spoilers)

I recall there being a little tension between Trulli and Alonso at Renault in 2003. I've got no evidence to back this up but I think it might have been in some ITV coverage at the time.

But then this would not be tabloid I suppose. I'm just trying to imply there could have been grounds for the general press.

Bear in mind this is after the very year Jenson left Renault.

The tension at Renault back then was more Flavio and Trulli I think. IIRC it was Trullis mistake at Magny Cours when he lost a spot at the end of the race that got Flavio annoyed, then it spiralled out of control from there until he was sacked.

Yeah I remember reading an article in F1 racing about how well Alonso and Trulli got on. But Flavio and Trulli definately didn't, leading to his replacement with Villeneuve.

In fact, as far as I know, Alonso has quite a few friends in F1. I think his relation with Trulli is/was good (remember how happy they were back in 2005 after one of the qualifying sessions at the beginning of the year -they were in Renault and Toyota- and took P1 and P2... they were extremely friendly one with the other). After that, I think he is also quite friend of Fisichella, Webber and Kubica. And still has quite a lot of friends in Toro Rosso as well from his Minardi times.
I believe when STR won at Monza, he went down to the garage to celebrate with them too.

I think some of you may recall that the tabloids are British, mostly; remember the Max Mosley scandal? Over here in Australia, Vettel is seen as a tainted champion, a villain in some respects; anyone remember Fuji 07? But head over to Europe, Germany and Austria, and Vettel is a hero, the seelling point of Red Bull. Either way, all drivers are equally as fantastic...

That was neither the fault of Vettel or Webber - it was Hamilton.
I think Alonso is actually a really nice guy, he just wants to do his job but hates the media, the british media in particular because of the whole Hamilton thing
Alonso refused to congratulate Vettel in person and took a while to even have it said over the media.
He congratulated Vettel and Redbull in the English & Spannish (and maybe more) post-race interviews a few minutes after the race. The same as all the other contenders.

It's the whole celebrity culture thing that the Media (in particular tabloid branch) completely overdo. Thing is... you won't find many drivers who actively enjoy and seek out media duties, pretty much none of them ever wanted to be famous or a celebrity, it's just an unfortunate side affect of being a competitor in one of the worlds most popular sporting events.

Much of what we read is simply made up, or copied made up stuff of copied made up stuff, (you get the drift), no wonder most of them hate it. For example Alonso and Hamilton actually get on fairly well, they might be big rivals on the track yet socially they get along very well, most of the press conveniently miss this and try to whip up a on track rivalry into a full on feud.

Alonso, like many of his peers is simply a bit shy, and he gets more attention than most because he's a double world champion, and considered to be one of the best currently in F1, if not the best in F1. And that attracts all kind of media stuff from all corners of the world, I highly doubt much of the media (with exception of the specialist papers and sites) have ever heard of Sakon Yamamoto, and wouldn't do unless he happened to crash into Alonso, Hamilton or Schumacher for example.

It comes down to this stupid big brother, celebrity, realityTV culture there is today, with people thinking that they somehow own these people, well they do not, and as far as I'm concerned they have as much entitlement to privacy as anyone else.

I would have dearly loved to have been a F1 driver.... but I would have hated the media/public attention, for one thing I'm not particularly good speaking in-front of small audience of people all of whom I know. I'd probably make Kimi look like Mr talkative charisma in a press/tv interview, I actually hate answering questions about myself. But I would have adored driving and racing the cars.
