Something to tax your memories and knowledge on.

Di Grassi's incident today is something we've not seen in F1 in a while. When was the last time a driver failed to take the start because they spun/crashed on a warm up lap or going to the grid. I remember Blundell doing it in the 95 Canadian Grand Prix and Coulthard doing it the same year in Italy. But both were able to take the start. (Coulthard was particularly luck that a first lap crash caused a restart and allowed him to re-take his pole position).

Didn't something happen to Schumacher on the way to the grid in the 05 Chinese Grand Prix?

Prost in San Marino in 91 is another one on the warm up lap. These are high-profile names i'm mentioning here. Di Grassi is in good company!

Who else has it happened to?

He was driving around at half speed whilst Albers was at full speed. They collided.

Ralf Schunacher in 1997 at Spa, he crashed on the way to the grid in the rain.

David Coulthard also got it all wrong on the warm up lap at the Italian GP in 95.

As did one of the Fortis. Then on the restart one Lavaggi spun on the same spot and took out a few cars.

Correct me if im wrong, was it Montoya who spun on the formation lap in Aus 03ish? coming out of the last corner?

I still cant believe di Grassi though - very odd place/way to crash.

Sutil clearly showed him how you are supposed to lose it in 130R... :)

2013 - Nando must come through..

I think the Montoya thing was in 2006 at Melbourne...but Fisichella, I think, let the engine die and he was able to start on the right spot.

As for formation lap spins, we've had a few of those recently: Alonso at Barcelona in 2008 and Piquet at Singapore in 2008 (warming up for the real thing) spring to mind.
