Yes, my use of terminology was incorrect

I'd not mind copyrighting it and charging royalties each time it's used. Just $1000 per race would make me happy :P

And so was mine. :(

The funniest thing is that they are complaining about the bar code, but the official team name is Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro. This type of advertising is much more obvious than the hidden logos. :D

This big fuss over the barcode did more to promote Marlboro, than the actual barcode ever did!

They should have done this in private, in court or something.... unless this was all Marlboro's doing ? :-o haha

pointless in the end though if none of you felt compelled to go out and buy some Marlboro cigarettes :)

Aaaaaaaaaaaa! :D:D:D

They dropped the BAR code! Now they are using a red rectangle:D I'm crying! LOL

Change of livery

Montmelò, 6th May - Together with Philip Morris International we have decided to modify the livery of our cars starting with the Barcelona Grand Prix.

This decision was taken in order to remove all speculation concerning the so-called "bar code" which was never intended to be a reference to a tobacco brand.

By this we want to put an end to this ridiculous story and concentrate on more important things than on such groundless allegations.

the irony is that the white rectangle looks much more like a Marlboro logo than the barcode ;)

It isn't about making people smoke, it's about brand recognition and buying Marlboro over your previous brand. I'd hazard a guess at not many people here are smokers, so it wouldn't be targeting them.

i know exactly what it is, i was being flippant, i've been a smoker and F1 fan for many years and remember Marlboro sponsorship from the old days but never felt compelled to switch brands or even try them.

As I already discussed in a previous thread, that isn't because advertising doesn't effect people, but rather because all tobacco companies advertise. And when you're all advertising, it cancels itself out. The Tobacco companies saved millions in advertising when the advertising ban came into effect, but lost none of the customers. If only 1 brand was advertising then it'd have a significant effect.

I think the prancing horse would look better on the engine cover than this rectangle.

Yes, why not stick the prancing horse IN the rectangle?

Because the rectangle still is, effectively, Marlboro advertising.

I'm surprised they didn't fill the rectangle with white and make it like the early 2000s non-tobacco livery.

that would look better

this like me the most but its too evident is Marlboro

anyway, this looks even better that that... but it has the bar code... in the 90s only UK and Germany dont allowed to show tobbaco, and when this was there nobody said nothing

and that white square... I think its an emergency plan and they will make some nice to go to Monaco

i like that alot. Imagine less white on the car, black wings and some yellow from the old Agip-decals. add some nice small relief-effect and this would los so awesome :D

I'm not sure about the Monaco bit. Ferrari are at times useless when it comes to rebranding a car properly except the once in Monaco 2007 where we got that crimson red on the cars. Remember 2008 when they got rid of the plain barcodes with the current ones but in a slanted position and then in the normal straight position. The nose cone doesn't even feature a barcode these days. But seriously, that Barcode isn't going to make you inclined to smoke. heck, so many brands were in F1 before and no one was even compelled to try them and even now people still don't. It just takes common sense to see whether you want to smoke or not.

And be done with it! ;)
