The Official 2010 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix Thread ***SPOILERS***

Webber did sum it up well... It was either follow, or collide and possibly take both cars out trying to pass. At this stage it isnt worth the risk. I got a feeling this year the order will vary track-to-track like with Mclaren-Ferrari in 07 and 08... and Michelin and Bridgestone. Vettel showed last year how early points are crucial. A mistake here and there in the start cost him a much closer run at Jenson.

"Trulli was slowing down like he wanted to have a picnic" LOL
Watch schumacher for the next 3-5 races, he'' be up again. He just need a couple of practices to get along with this new rules and to develop again his manueverability. Although we expect him sky-high. I wouldn't be suprised if rosberg out-paced him this season opener(earlier-stages of races) and scumacher out-paced rosberg on mid-stages of races(europe). Iam hoping that alonso will be highly-competitive on whole season also for schumacher atlest a threat for a title grab. Vettel is now more overrated driver than alonso on our country! lol!

your right man vettel here vettel there this sucks big time. I want an Tv coverage that shows all drivers and not only That stupid sob. Fernando is alongside (JPM,Kimi;JV and fisi) the best there is and he would have kicked vettels ass anyway in bahrain.

"And thats the bottom line cause Alonso0506 said so"
By comparing Alonso to the likes of JPM and Fisi, you're hardly bigging him up. ;)

So, Alonso-Vettel title battle with Hamilton ready to pick up the pieces, anyone?

Looks to me like that's what we can expect.

Karun Chandhok will be 2010 champion

Probably...and it makes sense.
Still Renault engines should be a little bit more reliable.

Probably, although Massa looks fairly close to Alonso so far, and Mercedes could still catch up to the top two teams to become a threat.

As has already been mentioned, it could be like 2007, with different cars much faster on different tracks - and if that's true, McLaren and Mercedes could already be effectively on par with Red Bull and Ferrari.

People say Vettel is overrated... are we forgetting how long this 'kid' has been around? Not long!

Vettel shows ALL the potential of a young Schumacher, in every way, and more on the talent scale.

What's more Vettel comes across as a VERY approachable person too, making him have a higher likeability than Schumacher.

I can vouch for that first hand when I met him at Silverstone at the hotel - SUPERB dude. Stopped and chatted to EVERYONE who was waiting!

Jenson drives it like he owns it; Lewis drives it like he stole it

Achtung, mein dear Freund. This is a family forum and we don't need rude Krauts using offensive language, jawohl!

Second if you really think Alonso would have beaten Vettel in Bahrain in a working car you have seen a different race.

REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS
Yeah, it's easy to overlook what Vettel has done in the last couple of years, and how much he's developed as a driver. It's worth noting too that Ferrari seemed to have the edge on RedBull in terms of race performance, but until he hit trouble, Seb seemed to have an answer for whatever Fernando could throw at him.

He's also a thoroughly nice guy and, IMO anyway, the biggest character in F1. Which technically has nothing to do with his driving, but hey, it won't do him any harm.

So altogether, as an overall package, I'd say he's pretty damn good.

My 'concern' with Vettel is that he's not ruthless enough, though to be honest, he's not had much opportunity. For whatever reason, he doesn't seem to make many overtaking moves, but that's probably down to the one weakness of the Renault engine - top end power.

It'll be interesting to see if he changes when he's the one with pressure on his shoulders, as Button had last year and as Schumacher has had most of his career.

So far though, he's a very hard driver to dislike.
This is the third complete season for him
in his first complete season had 1 win (driving like a veteran)
in his second complete season had 4 wins

Michael Schumacher won 1 race in his first complete season too
And in his second season he won 1 race (but there was Williams with that superb cars, and Senna in his best moment -but no mclarens best moment-)

Last sunday Vettel drove the car like a veteran, otherwise he could not finished the race

And that's the main difference between Vettel and Alonso. Vettel drives like a veteran, Alonso like a veterinarian.

REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS
Alonso is the contemporary equivalent of Prost in many ways. Always races better than he qualifies, manages to be very quick without looking spectacular, and has a knack of being at the front whenever it matters most - a "nasty habit of winning", so to speak.

When Alonso is in a competitive car, there are usually other drivers who you've thought drove better because they looked more exciting or overtook more cars - but Alonso has usually managed to sneak past and finish ahead of whoever you're praising.

I don't know. When you watched Alonso in the Renault - particularly in his title years and in 2008 - he looked like he was driving the balls off of the thing, way, way beyond what it should be capable of. You got the impression that not once did his determination drop beneath being absolutely and totally committed.

Spain, Singapore (despite the circumstances, it was the same through practice and qualifying) and Fuji 2008 were classic examples. You just knew he was right on it.

In many ways he reminds me of Mansell - perhaps not the most naturally gifted driver on the grid (that goes to Hamilton IMO), but makes up for it with sheer determination... though without most of the moaning of the tacheman. Nige was never as complete a driver as Alonso of course, though with a tiny bit more luck in the closing stages of championships, he'd be one of the most successful drivers in the sport.

In terms of sheer speed I really think JPM would've been faster than Fernando, but he lacked racecraft. Since Senna, JPM has been the most naturally-talented driver to get into F1 and since Juan it has been Lewis IMO.

Oh yeah, in 2008, definitely. In his title years, with the car much more underneath him(except in 2006 after Renault lost the mass damper), I thought he was much smoother and steadier behind the wheel, although I can remember the odd time when he was on the knife-edge between pushing hard and flying off(in the 2006 French GP, for example). In his 2nd stint at Renault he certainly drove the wheels off of it in a leary/acrobatic way, whether it was making the car do things it shouldn't have been capable of(Fuji 2008 was the drive of that season IMO), or making mistakes trying to pull off the impossible(Monaco and Canada 2008, but still all credit to him for trying). And I think the Mansell comparison is appropriate for the way he drove in an uncompetitive car.
But I think when he's in a strong car, like the 2005 and early 2006 Renaults, the 2007 McLaren and apparently this new Ferrari, then we see the Prost-like side of Alonso much more, I'd say.

Vettel was very overrated in our country. Not just because he works on small-mid budget team but also a guy who quite achieved on his junior years and not as successful as everyone else on the grid. But now look at him his even out-pacing his veteran team mate mark webber(No offense). But thats why he is very overrated on our country. But im still on Alonso-schumacher side though!. Was inspired by their duels during the course of 2006 season. I find Senna-JPM very similar on the way they approached their enemies during closing stages of the race and the way they steer if fighting for positions.

i think it's pretty well proven that Kimi wasn't the most technical driver in F1... what was his talent may i ask?
