Bahrain "outer circuit" is longer than Monaco.
It's about 3.530 km while Monaco is 3.340 km.
How much is the minimum required track length?

I don't see the problem with having some shorter circuits per se. F1 has always had some shorter circuits in the past. Dijon was a prime example. They bring their own challenges - greater repetition due to the higher number of laps, and more traffic due to the length.
It was only in the 1990s - and particularly since the infestation of Tilkedromes - that a standard circuit length of between 3 and 4 miles for new tracks seemed to be set. It's just one area in which the sport has been dumbed down.

They're extending Monaco too - it'll now turn off at Mirabeau and take a detour via the suburbs of Nice, before returning to the tunnel.

You are sh*tting me! That would cut out the single most iconic piece of track in F1.

I know sarcasm is difficult to grasp on t'internet, but come on!

You guys are shocked that they're going to drive 1 mile of monaco, then 8 miles to Nice, then 8 miles back, then another mile around the rest of Monaco? :D

lol, it'd be interesting.

a wrong move could result in a hefty plunge off that cliftop road.

i heard the FIA are awaiting homologation of the new ejector seats before they approve the layout. ;)

LOL, fair dos. Slow day, plus lack of local geography knowledge, equals fail of epicness. :P
What it was is it reminded me of a proposal about 10 years ago to add a long loop to the Monaco track which went out towards Nice. Damn Autosport. :P

This is what I would like to see:

Cars run the same way on start-finish straight,
all run-off areas are located at the correct positions
and only minor track modifications are needed.

Mr. Tilke, do you read me?
;) ;) ;)

Would you go clockwise or counter-clockwise then on that layout? ;)

New Silverstone layout is nice!

Worth losing bridge for! Turn11 looks cool! And passes into 13 look possible. I like it.

Rumour has it Singapore is also changing layout.

Not until '11 but the change looks an improvment

[forums.autosport.com]

The only other change they could do to make it better is, ermm take it off the calender?

That Silverstone modification looks like it could transform the circuit. Bridge will be missed out, yes, and that isn't ideal, but this change should add variety, character and another dimension to what has been, in my opinion, a bland and thoroughly boring track up to now. It'll make setup for the track more of a compromise, and yeah, it should increase passing opportunities too. It'll also mean the track finally makes decent use of its interior to increase the lap length without invading the surrounding area at all. If the race isn't going near Brands or Donny, this is easily the next best thing.

Happy about this :)

Cars run the same way on start-finish straight => outer part: clockwise => inner part: anticlockwise
;)

Looks like a good layout, but the only problem is, I can't see them not using the current Turn 1, especially with the grandstand there.
