IMHO a layout change should add something to the circuit. I don't see how this adds anything? In fact, won't it negate the passing opportunity at Turn 4 because the track then immediately swings left again?

I think the new layout will be used for extra money. Maybe they can park some grandstands there, so they can gain more profit. If i'm correct there weren't any grandstands in the 'old' section, or am I seeing this wrong?

They have trouble filling up the existing grandstands as it is.

Longer circuit to prevent early lapping as we have 6 more cars than last season?

As much as I think adding an extension to a Tilke track is like polishing a @#$%&, it still can only serve to improve things. Extending the previous lap will increase the amount of track which we get to watch the cars on and which the drivers have to be familiar with, as well as slightly decreasing the number of laps that get done on the track in any given session or race due to the longer lap length.
So it should mean a net improvement.

The new layout looks asif it will take addvantage of the more visible area from the grandstands, meaning you'll be able to see more.

Other than that I dont think it will take away overtaking opportunites however now less emphasis is placed on the two long straights... Setup will be more of a compramise between straight-line speed and having a car for the slower bits.

With persumably the added wing, and lower straight-line speed slipstreaming might be a little easier, but thats a guess.

But like I said, I think the change comes more for the spectator's point of view.

So long as it doesn't remove the action at T4 I'm fine with it. T4 has been seen most of the action since Bahrain bought its way onto the calender (which is odd, as the obvious point is the S/F straight, especially with the tricky final corner), and you do get some funky overtakes, with guys driving around the outside.

Yeah, which reminds me - with de la Rosa back again this year, and Bahrain being the first race... Hello! ;)

I dont think it should be effected, whoever has the outside of 4 has the inside of 5 and maybe the racing line into 6.

I should think that was what Tilke went for... so that the final corner, and the first few corners will result in an overtake at T4 (if not before). Overtakes tend to take place over a series of corners rather than just one and that section with the final straight, s/f straight and run upto 4 is perfect for setting up an overtake.

Wont forget Nick's move on Alonso! Brilliant!

Well this improves Schumi's chances of a good finish a lot! We all know he was always super fast on new or modified layouts, and the new extension of the track means that the old setups will be of little relevance, so they all almost start from scratch. Maybe this was Tilke's hidden agenda? To get Schumacher higher up at the start of the season?

I think we're speculating out of thin air on that one.

That's even more unrealistic than the average Steven Seagal movie ;)

Lol Nick - nothing can be that unrealistic! Except maybe an episode of Walker Texas Ranger.

They now use that ''endurance circuit'', the outer circuit looks cool though, abit Monza esque! ;)

Good point Iceman-Kimi, a few different layouts there. The "Outer Circuit" looks like the best layout to me, that'd encourage more passing than any other IMO.

problem is it's below minimum length so it'll still need an infield of some sort
