Thank God common sense survived, here in Belgium it seems like people'd do anything to prevent the race from happening (tobacco ads, organisational disputes, complaining people living nearby,...)

A win for common sense. Seriously, That track has been there in various guises since the 1930s, so I would think it's reasonable to assume that it was there before many of the home owners took up residence near it. And those that have been around since the 30s would be too old and deaf to hear the cars anyway. But the point is that they bought their land knowing it was sited next to a racetrack, which, shock horror, likes to hold racing events.
