mmm it looks more likely to the end of Formula 1. Pirelly says no to F1, Toyota leaves, BMW leaves, Honda leaves, Renault are evaluating their thing. Renault Cheatin, Ferrari cheating, McLaren cheating...All symptoms of a slowly dead that began in 2000 more or less. All because of their politics. I dont think there's an easy solution to this, not even a fast one.

F1 never had Toyota, BMW, Renault, Honda as a teams before, these teams represent a fraction of the history of F1
how long has bridgestone been in F1?

the only way for F1 to die is if Williams, Mclaren, Ferrari decide to leave simultaneously in the next 2 weeks

these Asian Manufacter can't commit to drivers/personel, how the @#$%& can they commit to the sport?

bring people with commitment, bring Dave Richards

The death of F1? Because we've lost manufacturers? 10 years ago we had 2 manufacturers. Ferrari, and Mercedes had a majority stake in McLaren at that time.

Good riddance to big soulless corporations, and hello private entries again. We are swapping Toyota for Sauber. Win win.

Toyota did sign the concorde agreement untill 2012 though, also signed in for next year already; a buyer of Toyota would go into f1 first instead of Sauber I think?

I thought that but apparently they are not selling the team... They have the opposite view of Honda in that they think it will be cheaper to simply shut down... If that is the case Sauber are a shoe-in

Awesome. The more private teams, the merrier. At least we know they're there for the racing, not to sell cars.

I feel bad for Kobayashi though, I sure hope he manages to secure a drive for next year.

Now, how's the teams queue looking? Apparently Sauber has priority, is that correct? How's Prodrive?

It'll be cheaper for Toyota to pay the fine and shut the team down than another year or so on the budget they currently run.

Don't know if anyone has seen this, but the Toyota chief (is it Tadashi Yamashina?) started crying when he announced the departure (0:40 onwards)

Obviously it is quite an emotional moment for all the crew, especially considering something like 600 jobs will be lost - and it will be hard for them to be re-employed in F1 considering the job cutbacks at the moment.

The guy's a motorsport bloke too, but presumably he felt they had little option. Big companies fall fast, and if this one of the areas that can protect them in the long run, then it had to be done.

I can understand him. It's really sad, when you are must announce a step like this.

I really hope, that the most members of the toyota crew find in other teams a new job. It would be not good, when all of them will stand next year in the rain. :(

Anyway, it was clear, that the Toyota chiefs will pull out the money-river for this project. The thing, which I don't understand. Why does they not continue as engine supplier only? Now we've got only Ferrari, Mercedes, Cosworth and maybe Renault. Should Renault also leave with the complete f1 program, then we would have only three engine suppliers for 2010.

At the moment, we are go straight forward to a Formula 1 with only one engine supplier. A Formula 1 like GP2 or the late Champcar? I don't think, that this will work.

Well it would be great if the FIA, under the new administration, encouraged more engine suppliers to come in. With the current engine freeze, there isn't much incentive - and even if you do build a good engine, you are forced to restrict it!

I read somewhere that Toyota would not close the factory. They were going to downsize the staff and start a programme in Le Mans maybe.
