It would be great to see him at Mercedes, but I don't want to get my hopes up this early.

James Allen has now acknowledged it, but hasn't offered any insight into the validity of the story.

One problem with this: in 2010, Kimi is already getting paid 15m from Ferrari, and he still wanted a large salary from McLaren. He is unlikely to reduce his demands in 2011

Brazil: bringing you F1 leaks first hand since... hey, who stole my watch!

Haggis: a quick banjo string search in the forum will certainly bring back memories :P.

Manager David Robertson:

"He wants to be back in F1 in 2011 but with all the money he has earned he doesn't want to go in a medium-type team for money,"

"Kimi wanted a winning car, only McLaren could supply that and he only had them in his sights."

"They couldn't afford him," "It wasn't in his interests to race for what they were offering"

err hang on a sec, a minute ago it was about having a winning car at Mclaren, and not about money as he as ammassed such an amount, all of sudden its not in his interests to race? c'mon! estimated 20m euros from Ferrari to leave, if Mclaren were offering him 10m euros thats still 30m and thats not enough?

suddenly its not about having the best car at all, Kimi walked away from the deal through greed, if he had the desire to be WDC again then stooopid amounts of money wouldnt be the deciding factor.

Yes it seems more like if Mercedes GP would be now stupid enought to offer for example 25m € Kimi wouldnt even care if car would be just good old Mp4/18 modified to fit in modern rules. He could anyway continue same way as till now. Blaming the car, tires, others and so on every year and he would still be seen as best and most motivated driver.

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

but isnt thoose 20m paid to Kimi only if he chooses not to race in F1 next year? so if i had taken thoose 10m from McLaren he would have lost 10m....

Yet still had the competitive car he was after, maybe Kimi cant survive on a mere 10m a year? perhaps he could use Easyjet instead of a private one ;)

Raikkonen would consider Mercedes now, apparently.

A big shift from a few days ago, it will be interesting to see what sort of offer they make, if any.

It isn't really, because it's all just been BS.

Kimi's interview on F1.com

Q: Kimi, we learned yesterday that you are thinking of taking a year off from Formula One racing. What is the state of affairs?
Kimi Raikkonen: Yes, that appears to be the case. I could not agree terms with McLaren so I have decided to take a one-year sabbatical.

Q: What about moving to the newly formed Mercedes GP team? Have you put out any feelers towards Brackley?
KR: No, I have not held talks with Brawn. I feel they will run two German drivers next year now that Mercedes are involved.

Kimi's manager however today morning said that they are listening the offer if Mercedes will make one and there is a possibility to agree on that.Kimi's interview was made yesterday. Will see what will this turn out to be but one year off seems most likely.

Kimi will still receive 10-15 million from Ferrari if he signs with another team. He'll get a couple more million if he doesn't sign.

I must have suppressed that memory haha. Can remember it all too vividly now though *shudders* Hopefully won't have nightmares!

Oh, and I had a complete recovery, i'd recommend it actually, less restrictive than before! :D

I think it still could be a ploy from Robertson to try and get Mercedes to hurry up and decide if they want Kimi. I'm pretty sure he used the same tactics during the McLaren talks.

"a source close to the 2007 F1 World Champion told wrc.com that only small details needed to be tied-up before an official announcement is made in the coming days."

Kimi seemed very close to a McLaren drive and never got it, so things can move quite quickly. Hopefully Kimi realises that the best way for him to be in a top F1 seat in 2011 (as he has said he wants) is to stay in F1 in 2010, with Mercedes if they have offered him a drive.

That would be a nice thought, but it seems Kimi is definitely headed for the WRC in 2010. Unfortunately for us F1 fans.
