The track looks like it could provide a couple of good overtaking spots, particularly with KERS, but it really is quite an uninspiring circuit. At least some of the other Tilke tracks like Sepang and Shanghai have some fast and sweeping corners...

I like how the pitlane exit goes under turn 1. That's the most positive thing I can think of.

Just another a-typical Tilke track with seemingly no particularly stand-out corners or features whatsoever. Yay.

Looks like a the worst bits from Sepang and Bahrain combined. A seriously boring track. Let hope it rains!!!!!!

Why the hell does he insist on having those Z shaped chicanes EVERYWHERE

Because having F shaped ones would just be problematic.

Circuit is far duller than I expected, with even more tarmac than I expected.

I like the novelty of the pitlane, but apart from that - God, this is dull. It's got absolutely no standout characteristics.
Just another 3 miles or so of wholesome Tilke goodness.

Some of the corners are okay...

The 15,16,17 section will be interesting to watch...

From what I heard I expected alot more elevation change, that would have made it a pretty nice circuit IMO.

I lolled. :D

It's possibly unfair to judge before we see any action, but it really does look appalling.

That the pitlane has a better-looking corner than any of the ones on the track itself has to be a bad sign.

it should provide a lot of overtaking oportunities
high speed corners tend to separate f1 cars, whereas slow speed gets them closer, there are some elevation changes it's just difficult to see them trhou a lens of a t-cam, i think the speed this guy was driving was too slow which obviously gave us a boring perception of the track

we don't need to have 2 130R, or two Eau Rouge corners in the calendar

i'm just wondering, is this the F1 layout?, because there seems to be a lot of alternatives

Pitlane - Yum

Overall - It's another Bahrain. Get rid of it

Well, lets look at the positives:

May be good overtaking.... maybe...
Great facilities, looks like a nice setting.
Pitlane is unique, and i really like it

Bad Points:

Just sparse, looks tedious
No true, inspiring fast corners
Too twisty, and perfectly surfaced...new F1 cars wont see a challenge here unless the dust effects the cars, or it rains....

The official F1 website seems to think it is.

The chicane going into the hairpin doesn't look very exciting, but i suppose it is done to keep the cars close together before the long straight.

The complete lap in this video starts at 2:42 and ends at 4:51.
It lasts 2:09 and YES, the driving was slow.
F1 cars are expected to lap the track at 1:37.

The track itself is neither good or bad.
It's layout has all the usual elements that Tilke combines together.
It's a shame that it lacks a characteristic of its own (like eau-rouge, parabolica, etc.) that would made it one special circuit.

It doesn't need epic corners to make it a good track. It needs a challenge. Some character. Something. Anything.

Having almost random corners with 20m wide tracks and 100m run off on every corner is ludicrous. Most of us thought these wide tracks would make for more overtaking, but all it does is make the racing line all the more critical.

Look at the Algarve circuit - it's just generally good and challenging. Even Turkey (a Tilke circuit) would be decent if you took away turn 8. Singapore (while having a relatively boring 2009 race) is demanding of concentration.

You don't need to recreate Eau Rouge to make a good, modern circuit. Melbourne doesn't really have any classic corners (turn 5 is pretty damn good though), but it always throws up either a good race or a good occasion.

This thing is just a date on the calender.

Why isnt algarve on the calender? it produced brilliant gp2 racing not so long ago, and it looks like it could do the same for F1.

Algarve has been granted a Grade 1 license so it can host F1 races.

It is the only new track in the world in the last ten years that hasn't had some input from Mr. H. Tilke and his gang. It's definitely a passing track.
