Alonso confirmed at Ferrari for 2010

Ferrari finally confirmed on Wednesday that Fernando Alonso will race for the team next season, replacing Kimi Raikkonen as Felipe Massa’s team mate. Giancarlo Fischella will continue in the role of reserve driver.

Alonso, who has spent the bulk of his Formula One career with Renault, has signed a three-year agreement with Ferrari, starting in 2010.

“We are very proud to welcome to our team another winning driver, who has demonstrated his amazing talent by winning two world championships in his career to date,” said Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali.

“Of course, we wish to thank Kimi for everything he has done during his time with Ferrari: in his first year with us, he managed to win the drivers’ title, thus making his contribution to Ferrari’s history and he played a vital role in our taking of the constructors’ title in 2007 and 2008.

“Even during a difficult season like this one, he has demonstrated his great talent, with several good results, including a great win in Spa and we are sure that we can share more good times together in the final three races of this season.”

Raikkonen has yet to confirm his plans for 2010.

Everything should fall in place now that this is confirmed. Wouldn't be surprised if McLaren confirms its lineup in the next couple of weeks.

Kimi's contract with Macca will be announced tomorrow or Friday.

Gav is a lucky man!

Anyway, its good to (finally) have it confirmed, and it will be great to see how he goes next year! Hopefully Kimi is at McLaren and we could get an absolute cracker of a championship next year!

I'm just not that excited.. Though it was well-predictable.. =/ As a finn I just loved so much seeing Kimi in the reds.

Alonso to Ferrari with Lewis throwing his toys out of the Pram. Will definately miss Kimi. Made a hell of a lot of impact on the team in managing two different personalities.

Thanks for the Fun Kimi . One thing I will definately miss is, Kimi's longer hair. Back to a Political McLaren for Kimi

Kimi wont need a haircut, it was always about Ron who told drivers to cut their hair...but for example Norbert Haugh already said Kimi looks like a rockstar and He loves that look!

Norbert Jabba Haug will probably try to bite Kimi's cheeks off :P. Kimi should look really cool in the McLaren, I hope both drivers do their own thing for their helmets though.

Anyway, no luck was needed - everyone knew he would be there for 2010.

I didn't see the Kimi-McLaren thing though (until the rumours started last week or whenever it was).

Kimi McLaren rumours started already over a month ago and have only got bigger last weekend everyone on the paddock were sure he will go to McLaren.

Yes! Now the rumours are done and speculation about a great 2010 season can increase. Now all we need is Kimi being confirmed at McLaren, and things will start looking peachy. :D

I just hope Ferrari's extra preparation for 2010 pays off and they don't do a BMW. It's been too long since Alonso was in a position to win races consistently.

he didn't won by skill but luck that mclaren didn't pick a card and he can thank felipe alot to give him the win in brazil and do an extra pitstop in fuji or he wouldn't have been an overrated world championship that did nothing afterwards then screwing up, why would ferrari replace him before his contract ends you think if he is SOOOOOOOOOO good lol
