And on the subject of Eddie Jordan:

Eddie is proving that he has his merits. Like getting on the cuff interviews with MS, features such as the Rubens one at the weekend etc. But overall, the man is an embarrasment. Some of the extraordinary clap that spews from his mouth surely must leave BBC producers scratching thier heads.....? Surely? You'd hope!

I really enjoyed when they had Mike Gascoyne onboard in China. I think he really added to it. At the moment you have a presenter who doesnt really know his stuff (However i have alot of time for Mr. Humphrey, avid reader of his blog), An ex-driver who brings some great insights and wit, and then some fella that used to own a team ages ago who is now far detached from the world he thinks he belongs to. Gascoyne is a true Pundit, his technical insights would be worth 50 Eddie Jordans

That's a good point, might explain why he did a good job in the pit lane but completely lost the plot in the commentary box.

I'd like to see Croft get the job, heck the BBC don't have much to lose, but hopefully he retains SOME of the laid back style he has during the practice sessions. Those who think Legard is boring, perhaps don't remember (or never heard) Jonathan Palmer.

During Fridays afternoon practice i sent in 4 different technical questions via the text service to see if it was possible to get one read out live on air, guess what? none were read out, so getting pissed off i dumbed it down to the point i asked if anyone lived in the houses after blanchimont and they read that out!

Not really imformative for the viewer is it?.

I think most of techy questions are better sent into FP1. Phillips doesn't know much about the technical side and Hamilton is like Allen. (Well sort of, allen knew his stuff and this guy doesn't. If you get what i mean)

That was you?! haha!

I liked that question, got me thinking, if that were the case they have the best garden in the world ;)!

I think I remember they said no though didnt they?

What bores me about Legard is the complete and utter lack on enthusiasm he seems to have. He barely gets above a mumble throughout the race, and when he feels like it's time to raise the tension, he tries to do so but it sounds horribly forced.

I don't mind commentators making mistakes, they all do it (Murray was famous for it.) What I DO mind is having a constant stream of irrelevant information polluting my ears. When the race running order scrolls along the bottom of the screen, I don't expect the commentator to read it out for me. I can read myself perfectly well. I don't need to be told that Sebastien Vettel is a Championship hopeful, twenty times per race.

He interrupts Martin Brundle, he drones on about unimportant things when there are interesting events happening out on track, he doesn't listen to the information fed to him by Ted Kravitz in the pits and he has a set phrasebook of sayings which he reels off every race... "pushing on" ... "shot in the arm" ... "battle has been joined" ...

I stumbled across this article the other day; I highly recommend it as an enhancement to this discussion:-

to be fair its got harder now to get stuff read out now they´re on the red button as they are getting a lot more sent in. i sent in a couple of non dumbed down texts when we were at spa last year they all got read out.

this year i sent in a couple over the weekend, didn´t get a single one.

I thought they said yes, i was waiting for them to elaborate further on it, but it was a basic yes answer.

+1!
As implied facepalms go, they don't get much better than that. :D

3 or 4 races back I texted the following questions

"Has Barrichello been beated psychologically by Buttons success?"
and
"Why havent the BRawns got more sponsorship?"

They answered them both. Just not that weekend. I also get sick of them answering questions from (the probably fictious) 15 year old kids that write in. I mean come on who put their age on their emails?

Nemesis (Age 30) :-)

As for Leggard v Allen. I like Allen, as Ive said before I dont need to read Sniffpetrol and copy what they think with their Stop the cocl campaign. Bear in mind SP is written by Richard Porter who has systematically ruined Top Gear of the last 4-5 series as "Script editor!" tosser!

I like them all on the BBC. Would prefer Allen tbh. EJ does screw up a fair bit, but when he gets it right hes very right. They all have a real chemistry/rapport that was forever lacking on ITV between Ryder and Blundell. And Humprey has been a revelation. Considering his background was CBBC he's adjusted so well to the role. Asks good questions and has more than enough insight!

EJ has made a few stupid comments, like his "knock on the chin" one about Massa in Hungary, but overall I think his hiring by the BBC has been a coup. Because he's someone who says what he thinks, when he thinks it, and he expresses his opinions - raw, uncensored, undoctored opinions. After the dumbed down Steve Ryder/Mark Blundell muppet show, that's a breath of fresh air and a joy to listen to. I can tolerate the odd retarded comment if the person making them is just being honest, as everybody makes mistakes. It's the "we'll be nice and safe and not have any opinions" approach of the ITV anchor crew that I can't stand.
Overall, EJ's an opinionated and colourful character, so he gets a thumbs up from me.

I think some people have the rosetints on regarding Allen already. Leggard has proven a bit boring, so people are wanting someone more exciting and going to the opposite extreme - wanting the fake bottled excitement that Allen brought. Allen doesn't seem as bad now because he is in his natural habitat. Ask questions, get answers, report back. It is what he is good at, and people are looking at that and forgetting how bad he was as a commentator.

Thankfully I don't think the BBC are stupid enough to get Allen back. If Leggard goes, then I'm sure it'll be Croft who'll be the replacement. Until then, Leggard is the lesser of 2 evils when it comes to him and Allen.

Eddie Jordan however, is a waste of time, space and money. He has proven several times that he is literally just making this stuff up as he goes along, and several times DC has outted him on camera about it. He also has no concept of how to be on TV. His questions start with a 5 minute introduction, most of which he'll pronounce wrongly. He needs to cut out most of the crap he says, and learn how to speak. It is like listening to Mark Blundell again.

What amazes me how is we constantly get microphone issues. If it wasn't bad enough that they keep doing the introductions in places we can't hear them (the pit lane), it seems they are constantly having technical issues than ITV didn't. It happened for the first 4 weekends, and it happened in FP1/FP2 again at Valencia and Spa. A technician can be heard in the background trying to fix the microphone sound issues. At one point at Valencia we heard the techy louder than we heard the commentators. And I'm pretty sure he was swearing too.

I think DC and Jordan go good together. The look on DC's face whenever Jordan talks is just hilarious :p

Jordan should stay, for comical value.

Exactly, it's entertainment. There's plenty of technical analysis on the Beeb anyways, plus DC will laser EJ if he gets anything wrong. EJ's straight talking and funnily enough, he doesn't pain me like most cringe presenters/analysists would. If you had two technical minded, always right people, it'd be interesting, but boring. DC, EJ and Jake Humphries are a great combination, their section of the show is always entertaining and I certainly wouldn't change it.
