Maybe it was the general lack of testing that stumped him. However, put him in the car in 2008 or earlier he'd been up there with the other car. It was just that before this year there was testing allowed and he was putting the miles over and over and was more acquainted to the car. Good Luck to whatever he does now, or doesn't do now.

Any driver who misses 10 years of competitive racing, and has not even tested the current car properly, was always going to struggle a lot.

As Gav said, he is just unlucky that the field is so close now, and has got even closer since he returned with Force India and BMW moving forward.

I am fully convinced too, of course Alonso would have to join the queue behind Badoer and Gene before he could even be considered!

oh hell no ;)

But there's no way Kimi could be going to McLaren next year. I mean the paper who's making these rumours is the Daily Mirror. Those guys are the same as the Sun and useless at times. Only thing to believe could be Guardian or The Times. Alonso in a Ferrari in 2011, For sure.

I hope it's real! I would love to see Kimi back in a Mclaren! I dont think he's ever lived up to his potential at Ferrari, not the same way he did at Mclaren!

Would be good to see him and Lewis together too!

I think Kimi may rise up his spirit once again with mclaren, since we know mclaren already advancing its development for their 2010 challenger, thus encouraging the finn driver to join even more...,

im 99.1% sure, that kimi will blast-off hamilton's ability.

And mclaren's spirit within kimi is very extremly high, compare to lewis passionate and commitment over his team.

I wonder if McLaren will return to their slum or unreliability if Kimi is to go there. I'd welcome that ;)

Lewis wouldn't want Kimi as a team-mate.

End of discussion.

I heard the rumours of Anthony Hamilton not liking the idea of Nico being Hamiltons team mate but I cant see Lewis denying the chance to battle either Kimi or Nico. Minus a few incidents with Alonso I very much got the impression Lewis enjoyed being pushed because well he never has before. I would strongly bet Lewis would have no objection to having a quick team-mate again.

Either way, Mclaren need to have two quick drivers. Ferrari will either have Massa-Alonso or Massa-Kimi, all quick drivers. Heikki has done not one single thing in his whole time at Mclaren to suggest he can battle with either of them. Mclaren need two good drivers.

But Martin Whitmarsh and Norbert Haug want, who would win? What does Lewis want to do? Ferrari is full, and the others are more or less @#$%& teams compared to Mclaren.

McLaren have never had equal status team mates for decades. That pretty much sums up the whole situation.

In which case, Martin Whitmarsh should just be telling Lewis to STFU and trying to sign Kimi anyway.
It isn't the lead driver's decision to make. If the situation in that team has already got to the stage where Lewis is calling all the shots, then frankly they've got serious issues.

Edit: Which, of course, they do when it comes to the team management...

BUT, how much of that was under Ron Dennis as opposed to Martin Whitmarsh? Keeping in mind that this year we have a situation where Heikki is a clear #2 to Lewis, but if you have two frontrunners in one team, would Whitmarsh start trying to pick favourites (or at least at the start of the season when it's still open.)? If he does, he's a fool.

Then, there's the small matter of Kimi's Ferrari contract, Ferrari could use this to their advantage and say McLaren must buy Kimi's contract, thus giving Ferrari a whole lot of $ and a free seat for Alonso, should he be going there in 2010. Would McLaren be willing to pay for that just to have a #2 driver? That would also be nuts.

Also Kimi's been around for a while, if McLaren are trying to build up a strong pairing, then treating Kimi like a second driver wouldn't work because he could quite easily tell them to stick it after one season.

Whitmarsh is just Ron Lite. They replaced Ron, who was a liar, with Whitmarsh, who is a liar. The only difference now is Whitmarsh is worse at hiding it than Ron ever was.
