/me shrugs, remains doubtful but strangely optimistic (think i am one of the only ones here not wanting a new series simply because it would be the death of F!)

you're certainly not the only the one.

besides a series run by de montezemolo would last 5 minutes

Agreed. FOTA series would be fantastic, for the one year before the manufacturers fall out and it falls apart.

I don't know if i am happy or sad about Mosley leaving now. I hated him, then he did alot to help F! (as it then appeared), but the possible two tier racing pushed him over the edge and the time naturally came to get someone else in charge.

FOTA teams staying in F! because they know Jean Todt will replace Mosley? :P

So Mosley knew that the breakaway teams dislike of him could be a bargaining chip. One quote I read had him saying that due "to this attack on the mandate you have entrusted in me," he might stand for re-election.

Are the teams happier to see Mosley go than preserve their budgets as they are?
Peace for the time being.

Strange, since I have heard several teams say that Mosley wasn't the reason to break away. Aka, him standing down wouldn't change their minds.

I'm begining to think that that had become some people within FOTA's main objective.

the impression i got from everything that was coming out over the last week or so was that the name for the budget cap was a bigger issue than the cap itself. The FIA seemed to indicate that their's and FOTA's proposals ammounted to pretty much the same thing. the argument had little or nothing to do with the cap or the rules.

also, Mosley said in the bbc interview he'd go if it meant an agreement would be reached. looks like he's had to do that.

but i guess if as part of this they've agreed on cost cutting then F1 has a stable financial model for the next few years along with 3 new teams.

Which was pretty much what Max wanted all along wasn't it?

As much as I dont like Mosley, I am worried who will take over.

During his time he has taken care of a lot of problems and F1 for the most part has been better. But he also lied to all F1 fans regarding USA a few years back, he told us one thing and then later we find out he was the one that would not allow the chicane.

He just lost the plot thinking he could get away with anything after last year, and he took it 1 step to far. The stuff he said to the BBC was not good and someone that high up should not have been saying it.

But we have got new teams next year that F1 needed, but it has not been said yet if they will be rev limited.

I'm disappointed in the FOTA - they looked like they could bring so much with the new championship. Lower ticket prices, traditional venues, etc.

But, I think that what they have done today is the second best option. Without Max Mosely, maybe the new president will have the outlook to the future of F1 that we are looking for. And now the history, statistics and the name 'Formula 1' will all be retatined.

I still can't help being a bit disappointed, but I suppose that this was the best option for a mixture of both a 'safe' outcome whilst still giving the possibility of having a much better style of governance. Maybe the new president will change some of the rules, to make F1 less restrictive and more appealing? Let's hope so.

i think plenty of that was just a nice carrot to get the fans on their side.
i guess we'll never know how much of it they could actually have delivered

eitherway, a breakaway would have meant disaster for both series in the long run. i'm just delighted that they've managed to pull the situation back from the abyss

(this had better not get overturned when the 'the loonies' meet tomorrow :-) )

It's just hit me - These points that they said that they would include in the new championship... Maybe they could say to the new FIA president that the majority of fans, as shown by polls, were in favour of the FOTA. They were obviously in favour of these points about the new championship - so they could propose that the FIA introduce them to Formula 1 to improve the sport.

Max gone?

If not no breakaway then that surley is the best outcome. What a tool. Then again who will replace him? Purnell? He doesnt seem too bad does he.

Saying that he's had some off-ideas about Qualifying. Then again he came up with the current system? A budget cap is needed, and I dont think it was that the teams disputed btw ;-).

Who else would be in line? Other than Purnell the only other options I see as decent are Todt, or Dennis (wont happen in a million years sadly) or even maybe that Italian guy, Flavio?? May not be savvy with technical matters (Max tried bless him) but he could handle the rest.

i got the impression he originally(i.e as of the end of last year) didn't intend to stand again? (though i could be talking rubbish, maybe someone can confirm?) he was only going to carry on if he felt had to to ensure the cost proposals went through?

we seem to be in a bizzare situation where despite all the mud slinging and posturing thats been going on, neither side has ended up loosing face ?!?

The teams get some of the concessions that they wanted.

max gets his cost cuts and new teams along with the FIA governence of F1 secured.

anyone care to remind me what all the fuss was about? :-)

Really, really hope this is true!! It would be awesome. I never expected this issue to be solved anything like this quickly. Of course everyone will have been negotiating furiously during this last week, but considering it's a political issue, the speed of this conclusion would still be very impressive.

Also, if Max has agreed not to run for re-election, then kudos to him for it, even though I can't stand the guy.
