i don't think that is true. He might promote the F1 event, but he definitely doesn't own the track.

No, some tracks seem to have restrictions from doing this.

"But if the breakaway group does split, it seems the rival series would have to make do without many of the current venues, according to the Straits Times newspaper.

The publication said Singapore's five-year contract precludes the Republic negotiating with another series, and that other hosts like Melbourne have similar restrictions."

my "dream" calendar for this series would be this one

Interlagos
Buenos Aires
Imola
Monaco
Barcelona (old configuration)
Montreal
Indianapolis (old configuration)
Silverstone
Magny-Cours
Hockenheim (old configuration)
Budapest
Spa
Monza
Estoril
Nürburgring (old configuration)
Suzuka
Adelaide

but this gonna will never happen. So a realistic one would be this one

1. Kyalami
2. Mexico-City
3. Interlagos
4. Jerez
5. Imola
6. Monaco
7. Montreal
8. Indianapolis
9. Silverstone
10. Magny-Cours
11. Nürburgring / Hockenheim
12. Brno
13. Spa
14. Monza
15. Portimao
16. Suzuka
17. Surfers Paradise

Awesome, except I would replace Barcelona with Jerez/Valencia(bike circuit not street)

What's the old configuration of Indianapolis?

This is the new layout (used for MotoGP), followed by the old one (used for F1). I think that, if they went back to Indy, they'd probably use the new layout, simply to avoid using turn 13 after Schumacher and Barrichello's bad accidents there.

They're going the right way now at least, but taking away the banked curve kinda sucks. Sure it's dangerous, but screw it, that's what they have helmets for. ;-)

that's the one that was published in a magazine over the weekend, right? if so, that is quite a good calendar!

I think Surfers Paradise or Phillip Island are more likely for the Australian event, depending if FOTA link up with Dorna or A1GP. Adelaide already has the very successful V8 Supercar race in March, so i can't see them either sharing the race or having two big races at different times of the year.

A Finnish GP would be nice, i'm surprised there haven't been more attempts in the past considering all the drivers that have been produced.

Apart from that, it looks like a good calendar. It would be nice to maybe have Potrero de los Funes or Kyalami in though. Then it would be a very good global spread.

Apparently Adelaide really wants the GP back so that's definitely a possibility.

source? as far as i know, they don't want it back.

and anyway, as much as i would love a GP to come to sydney, it would never work because of poor governance and not enough f1 support in comparison to melbourne and adelaide.

Laguna Seca wouldn't make it, the circuit's really short, too short for regulations I think.
Shame cos it's one awesome circuit.

Predictable, but still sad nevertheless. Just last night I watched my old live recording on VHS of the 1992 German GP, held when it was still the proper Hockenheim of course. Great race. Another part of F1 history that's being left behind, it seems.

not quite yet, now Bernie is going to hold talks with representatives of the track to try and save the 2010 race - apparently he might end up promoting the race himself or lowering the race promotion fee

it could make it because FOTA wouldn't have had the same regulations

Why not Watkins Glen?

I watched the Indy race that was held there on Sunday. Excellent. It would be awesome if the F1 guys go there, absolutely destroy the lap record and then just happen to mention that Justin Wilson, Sundays Indycar winner was a F1 driver. Anyway,Watkins Glen is a nice track. Nice flow. I like those blue Armco barriers. Unusual.
