Actually you can still do F1 at age 50 easily, most of the drivers want to spend their millions when they turn 38, or have a family or something. But Schumi could have easily continued another 10 years, its bollocks F1 drivers are at their end when they are 38ish. When you have the talent the age doesn't matter.
And about physicall less demanding, maybe over a lap, but a whole 24 hour race is alot tougher then any formula 1 race there is.
