The chief business of Formula 1, Britain's Bernie Ecclestone confirmed that it has initiated negotiations with Argentina for the Formula 1 back to its Grand Prix. The last Grand Prix that took place in Argentina in 1998 and was the winner was the German Michael Schumacher.

"We're talking with people from Argentina, the negotiations have just started," said Ecclestone.

more good calendar news!

i think Argentina deserves a race, and it would be great to have another race with a long motorsport and F1 heritage instead of the other new rounds coming such as Abu Dhabi, Korea and India. of course, it is only at a very early stage - several countries have seemingly started negotiations and then dropped off the radar.

This is the circuit they plan to adapt, according to the article. It would have to be upgraded for F1 standard, so they might end up changing the layout. Hopefully not too much though, because it looks fairly unique compared to most of the other f1 tracks at the moment.

Some nice overtaking spots there. Hope it does come back, I'm getting tired of Tilke Fests.

On second thoughts, if they change the layout, they'll almost certainly employ Tilike to do it.

Yawn.

I guess it have same problem as old Hocke had. "Track is spreaded on too big area" and that is already enought big reason to change most of layout.

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

Difference is that this circuit is too hard to change as it is in a hill i think... I was there last year when WTCC ran there and it was very cool, it made me remember Zandvoort

Thats San Luis right? And also, when did they run WTCC there, I thought only FIA GT ran there? The circuit is brilliant, I really would be happy if it would be on the calender.

Also some pics of FIA GT at San Luis last year, tracks looks very nice, as does the scenery, and it has isn't flat luckily + pretty modern looking.

that looks exceptional!!

let's hope this gets on the calendar, and they don't have to change it too much to upgrade it to Level 1 status.

After seeing the diagram of the layout, Nononono!

After seeing pictures of the track, Yesyesyesyes!

EDIT : Although I fear some of the run offs may need to be extended and lots more spectator areas added, I would absolutely love to see this track on the calendar! Reminds me of Spa somewhat in that it goes off into the scenery.

You're right, WTCC has not been there yet. Apart from FIA GT, a TC 2000 race was held there, maybe that's where the confusion came from.

Yes, its true...

Today at 10 PM here in Argentina (8PM in Colombia and dunno if Fox Sports gives F1 to other countries in Latin America) they will talk about this possibility. Im very excited about this as we dont have a race since 1998 and I think Argentina deserves a place in F1 calendar

yes, F1 should definitely have more than 1 race in the Americas. There should probably be 4, including USA and Canada as well. Once again though, it might end up being hard to fit all of these races in the calendar.

BAD NEWS: just readed Tilke was in Mar del Plata (most tourist-city in the country) to see where to build an urban circuit... Valencia II? :(

Bernie rejectoed any normal circuit, he wants an urban :(
