Yup we should prepare for the worst. But it wasn't all bad though two 5live commentators and proper coverage with Pit lane coverage too. Saw the afternoon session.

They missed a trick there - a generic racing driver in white on the BBC should be the Stig. Doesn't have to go anywhere (like a TG link), but it would have been good. :P

They had some computer generated cars on the 6 o'clock news earlier, to the Chain, though completely different to this, so I'm not sure what that was in aid of. Perhaps cut scenes or something. I had assumed it was the intro, but obviously not.

//edit: On the Lewis Loving - I don't mind bias towards the home nations in the slightest, so long as it's not all about them. I don't need a new Lewis interview at every race, especially not when he's muttering the same as he did previously. Focus on Button, Hamilton and Brawn - fine - just remember that they don't need to win for you to stay happy. It's Formula 1, not the Nations Cup.

they have interviewed Brundle and Legard twice now in Australia (including a very long one right now). i think they will do a good job, they don't seem TOO biased at the moment at least

The coverage was pretty good; the features IMHO were a little less dumbed-down than ITV. The Hamilton interview was inevitable, i guess.

Can't fault Brundle or Legard, but am i the only one who thought Eddie struggled a bit? He seemed nervous and chewed on his own words a lot. I hope he improves, because the other two were pretty good.

They're both alright in the commentary box although they do speak over each other at times. John reminds me a bit of Murray when he used to get muddled up alot. This guy muddled at the first hurdle when the track preview with all the fastest lap and everything comes up by saying "Forumler 1"

All in all however, no ad breaks and the whole thing is executed very professionally and they don't hog the screen with Lewis this, lewis that. Plus the humour between DC and Eddie is pure fun

Both Legard and Jordan looked and sounded nervous at first. I get the impression that Jordan's line about the "confuser... sorry diffuser" was just a pre-rehearsed line that was executed poorly. I expect we'll get a few cringe-worthy opinions from him, but his jovial character and natural banter will more than make up for it. :)

Humphreys carried the whole thing well it seemed - I expected him to be the weak link, but he was anything but.

Good start - the exact same format as ITV had, but a million times better. :D

//edit: really liked how they immediately show onboard laps between sessions too - it would have been hard for ITV to do so of course, but it would have been better than watching Mark Blundell... hearing him was bad enough. :P

Sums up the UK. We're just missing a Welshman now :)

lol, like that'll ever come to pass. :)

But I agree with the general opinion, it was worth getting up early for. The session itself was exciting, but the coverage was good too. There was far more punditry and far less rehearsed idle chatter. Everything that was said had relevance.

And they got the interviews we wanted to see! A nice long chat with Ross, they collared Richard Branson ("I'm just a lucky b&^%$^rd" - lol), spoke to Mark Webber about his accident, and even found time to interview Kubica before dealing with the top 3 on the grid.

Keep it up!

I thought EJ was trying a bit too hard all the way through. Loved DC's reaction when Eddie talked about McLaren "needing to nurture Lewis" :P

Thought it was all ace!! That fact it didnt dwell on just the brits too much was great, additionally I watched the friday practises on the red button, and the commentary on that (although 5live radio I beleive) was great and very insightful. Like someone else said the coverage wasnt dunmbed down as much as you felt on ITV

Both the BBC coverage and the qualifying itself were better than I hoped for. I like the new jazzed-up FIA intro. I seem to be the other way around to most people in that I thought Coulthard was the one who looked awkward, and that Eddie Jordan was better. Clearly they were all nervous, but who can blame them? I also wonder what they'll be like when they settle in after a few races? On Jake Humphries, I was one of the few who thought he was the right choice to be the anchorman when he was announced, once again he lived up to my (as always high :P ) expectations.

Didn't like the graphics during the intro...but who cares, it's the chain.

The coverage was outstanding. Jake was a bit shakey at first, but pulled it together brilliantly. Both EJ and DC asked some good tough questions (a polar opposite of Mark Blundells crap). They threw some good questions at Ross Brawn, and then even started questioning each other, which was fantastic. These guys know what they are talking about and used there strong points well. None were afraid to voice there opinion (see the Jenson/Schumacher comparison by DC and EJ).

For the other commentators, Ant was inconsistant. Sometimes some of his stuff was great, othertimes he sounded like a twat. But, giving credit where credit is due he made 2 brilliant comments. His "Boohoo" to Kubicas moaning was brilliant, as was his "Read the manual - motorsport is dangerous". Good stuff Ant! Ian Phillips was brilliant, especially considering he is Force India team principle. Maurice was very knowledgeable, but sounds dull. Legard was good. Too much radio style commentry still, but that'll filter out. Martin Brundle was his usual awesome.

For the rest of the coverage. We have been putting up with ITVs garbage for years. It feels like we've been watching F1 for idiots until now. We had technical information, and meaningful sections. ITV made Lewis look like an @#$%&. BBC made him look the opposite. The clips of historic GPs in DCs preview and the section about Lewis were brilliant. Mark Webbers recovery process was good too. Told me interesting stuff I didn't know. BBC also showed the press conference for qualifying - something ITV wouldn't do. Oh yeah - and no ad breaks!

ITV fed us complete trash. Steve Ryder and Mark Blundell were complete morons during the Q&A. Questions like "How important is it to be on pole?" is not a question. There is no wrong answer to that. All Mark needs to do is string some words together and there is the answer. ITV was not only dumbed down for us, it was dumbed down for the presenters. They knew so little that the questions had to be so stupid just so they can answer. Now we have Jake, DC and EJ, it is the complete opposite. ITV had crap about Fisichella cooking or Trullis vineyards. BBC did a drivers injury recovery and Lewis Hamilton on his feelings on joining the F1 World Champions. And despite having a big section on Lewis, at no point did I feel the entire broadcast was bias towards Lewis.

The coverage gets 9/10 for me so far. Only downsides are the presenters being a tad nervous (but I am sure that will improve), the slightly meh CGI graphics intro (but who cares? The Chain!) and the dropped signal. But I really had to search for reasons not to give it 10/10. Oh, maybe I should bump it back up to 10/10 since they are constant repeating sessions on the red button, showing classic races, and the online streaming is outstanding. :)

ONLY disapointed was lack of full press conference. Otherwise the constant showing of sessions on red button is a massive (Y)

+1 to Dave's post. BBC's coverage isn't just superior to ITV, it's on a different planet.
