I can record from the Red Button and it always works for me so god knows what you're doing wrong.

Let's try and clear up some misunderstandings here:

It is true that ITV raised the F1 coverage standards in 1997, and the BBC's track record prior to 1995 was somewhat patchy.

But let's live in the present.
The facts:
All Free Practice Sessions live on BBCi and online
All Qualifying sessions live on BBC1 or BBC2
All Races live on BBC1
Same Length pre-race and slightly longer post-race show.
Onboard multi-angle option available during the race on BBCi and Online.
1 hour Highlights at 7pm on Sundays on BBC3.
Highlights available on iPlayer.
Classic F1 shown on BBCi and online prior to each race.
Uninterrupted coverage.

Now let's compare that to ITV:
Only Friday Free Practice shown online, no Saturday Free Practice.
Unreliable Qualifying Coverage, as late as Japan and China 2006 sessions weren't shown live.
All races live on ITV1.
Extravagant pre-race show, appalling post-race coverage.
No multi-angle options.
45 minute highlights shown between 10pm-midnight on Sundays.
No online replays.
No classic F1 shown, after 'rights issues' prevented them showing this on ITV4 last year.
Commercials during programming.

If you seriously think ITV's offering was better, please pass me what you have been smoking.

PaulBoy, as an admin of the site in question your criticism seems somewhat random and out of date. The jokes you refer to are around 12 months old, and I don't recall any particular James Allen bashing. Your last posts were in a sensible discussion of the Indian Grand Prix.

I also can't find any evidence that anyone mocked your signature, please PM me either here or there with evidence, as obviously we don't tolerate bullying or harassment and I will ensure this is looked into.

Cant wait until BBC coverage is interrupted for ads for strictly come dancing and Andrew lloyd webbers latest venture!

Maybe they also could get Lawro and Hansen on to talk about how great the 80's were but are woeful in modern times ;)

I am hopeful that the BBC have learnt by their mistakes when it comes to presentation of motorsports ( you only have to look at the Moto GP coverage to see how a couple of idiots and a bint can lower the overall tone of preceedings) but seeing as the BBC is supposed to be the mother of broadcasting stations we have put up a mediocre F1 website.

Hell, to say the beeb get millions paid to them for the license fee and landed the F1 rights seeing as ITV preferred the Footy you would have thought with all their resources they would have pulled out all the stops to put a decent F1 website!

ITV have a better one and all they offer is repeats of Inspector Morse and Xfactor!

Lets hope the beeb are actually putting people in charge of the F1 project that want to make the best of what they are given, rather than filling the required positions with people that are filling quotas

They're definitely getting the message out to the public though. Went to the cinema tonight to see a film with my girlfriend and they had two adverts for the f1 no less! Shows they're taking it seriously at least and trying to get as much attention as possible :)

You can't diss Suzi Perry like that! How can you not like this?

Agreed, the colours could at least be better, but give it time, I'm sure people will appreciate it.

Seen the blogs of the producer and presenter? They seem committed. I can't wait to see DC and EJ mouth off the competition! ;)

Some of those weren't available/down to ITV to be fair. And lets wait to see if F1 still gets that sort of coverage if no Brits as near the front.

That's exactly my problem. Thankfully Eurosport can now show the race delayed by an hour as I wasn'y looking forward to Parish and Cox say "contact patch the size of a credit card" 600 times a race. and I definetly didn't want to se Perry flirting with the riders instead of interviewing them!

My point is that BBC have lied about coverage expectations before. (re the HD debacle) so there is precedent they will do a @#$%& job of F1 after the initial novelty has worn off. Hell, they stick Match of the Day on ridculously late and that's premiership football!

Great picture. Shame it was taken 10 years ago when she was still remembered as a model. Her whole TV interview style is to try and flirt with the riders to make up for lack of sensible questions! It's embaressing. Like your GF's mum cracking on to you.

Suzi Perry really is hot. She apparently likes her F1 too - I heard she was in talks to join F1-ITV a few years back.

Saw a trailer for the F1 coverage on BBC1 earlier tonight - set to The Chain, which was cool, but the cars they used weren't exactly convincing - more like giant Scalectrix :P

as we're getting The Chain back for the BBC coverage, it would also be nice to get the old FIA logo animation with the funky guitar lick:

I agree but it's not down to the BBC is it, the new one with the circle of coloured strips going round is played at the start of every piece of coverage on any broadcast?

That old one rocked. Just seeing it now brings back serious memories. Once more, with feeling, "If ain't broke, why fix it, F1?"

Extract it from the GP3 install, mute the TV 5 minutes before the start of the race and play that instead! That's what I do!

It was awesome! Loved the guitar riff at the end. They brought it in late in 1991, possibly for the showdown at Suzuka, and kept it on till the end of 2002.
