Still no HD then.

Multiple streams sounds good though.

Yeah shame about the HD, maybe for 2010?

Everything else sound's good to me though, seem's like their offering 10x the stuff ITV ever did :)

i got the impression, that it isn't the BBC that has the issue with HD, its that the races aren't filmed in HD. I vaugely recall bernie saying something about the cost of upgrading everything? (could be completely wrong though)

bernie did say he went with the beeb because of the complete package they were able to offer, i guess we can see what he meant now.

hadn't see that,

that really does look pretty darn good.

downloadable races too.

I like the idea of using the red button for extended post race for those that are interested. They use it for the rugby at the moment works very well.

"An 'F1 mole', a diary-type blog featuring the latest gossip and inside stories"

didn't know they'd given Stepney a job on the team too :-)

Oh ffs why still no HD :@

Every other sport seems to have it, A1GP which has virtually no money has HD, NASCAR and IRL have HD, there's no excuse for the richest sport in the world not to have it :(

IIRC Bernie said something about needing at least three broadcasters requesting it before he'd implement it. Far as I remember the BBC and the German broadcaster (RTL?) have expressed interest, but no third so no go.

I would be surprised if Japan or America wasn't interested... unless Bernie has decided to charge an extra 50 million or something for it.

Nice...hopefully non-britain folks can find a way to watch the live coverage. I want to watch the practice sessions afterall, hehe.

i'm sure it will be possible if it works anything like last year's ITV streams

with HD, i got the impression it was just the general cost of doing it. They'd have to replace all the cameras and upgrade the whole on circuit broadcast infrastructure to handle the increased bandwidth. the cost of running a HD service would be higher too.

Bernie said unless there was sufficent demand for it,(which he felt there wasn't), then it wasn't going to be worth it.

That remains to be seen, assuming that it all gets piped through iPlayer - isn't that only meant to be available within the UK?

i'd imagine there are ways around such things.

for example, its not hard to remove the DRM from the downloads so i doubt watching it live from outside the uk would be impossible.

in fact i'm almost certain you can as a mate of mine in germany watches stuff on it. no idea how he does it though. i'm sure google will point you in the right direction.

Sounds awesome! Agreed, shame about the HD, but the split-screen option and coverage of everything on Interactive still guarantees a total trumping of ITV's coverage :):):)
My video collection is gonna go stratospheric this year if I try to record all that lot. Go BBC!

for those hoping for at least 30 seconds of coverage where the words 'Lewis' and 'Hamilton' aren't uttered this seems good news

from the looks of it brundle will still be doing his grid walks!

[edit]
...and the final piece falls into place!!!

[blogs.telegraph.co.uk]

all in all. not bad.

Woohoo! Sounds brilliant. Good to know they've got their priorities right ;)
Wonder if that "hour-and-a-half" they're on about is in terms of material per race weekend, or per day? Either way it's gonna kick ass.

i wonder if they'll have commentary on the practice sessions.

I know itv didn't, but the bbc covered them on fiveLive sports extra last year, so maybe we'll get the radio commentary?
