As far as I know, Lewis put his best time at the very end of the session, with more quali approach. Anyway, why is McLaren still using the 2008 rear wing spec?

From F1-Live:

"The team carried out the majority of its running using a hybrid-spec 2008 rear wing in order to more effectively simulate expected downforce loads and will bring a raft of new components to next month’s test, back in Jerez." the team stated.

Looks like Alonso is working towards optimising the car's performance over a race distance.

That Williams does indeed look fantastic in some pictures. I noticed that picture a couple of days ago, it's one of the better ones that I've seen for a long time. :)

Yes, the tyres look a lot better when they're being used! They sounded horrible on paper, but for real they're quite nice. The way that the green lines on the rear tyres are further down gives an illusion that we have fatter rear tyres, too.

The Williams looks quite retro in these photos, aswell:

EDIT: I do like the way you can see the internals of the car through the rear, aswell. F1 truly is going retro!! :)

Gorgeous. With that Williams, it IS the 90s again. Great stuff, lets hope it's competitive!

Nice to see they keep faith on this tradition:

Out of curiosity for those who don't know, since 1995 in all Williams cars.

A final word about the numbers: As informed by Globo, Colajani has told that possibly a mistake by FIA occured, but that internally talking, the numbers are these from the launch. In Mugello they raced with inverted ones for tests, probably they were still expecting a response from FIA about, so did this way just in case. Though, regarding the entry list, Luca finished saying there was nothing defined about their numbers on that and in tests they could of race with a car 1 or 99 for example, only in Australia is that they would definitely follow fixed ones what in the order already mentioned. So although now the probability is less, it's still possible to see them mixed in the tests to come, also depending on another things, like testing experimental nosecones non produced in large scale yet for example (like Pquet's case) etc.. But basically it's about that regarding this matter.

Well Luca Colijani is an expert at that. "Yes guy" par excellence.

If the rules are followed, Massa will race with #3 and Kimi with #4.

Nice touch from Williams RE the logo on the front wing.

Here are today's times from Bahrain:

1. Kimi Raikkonen 1.32.102 107 laps
2. Jarno Trulli 1.32.230 149 laps
3. Nick Heidfeld 1.32.585 104 laps

I have seen some reports that say that BMW aren't too consistent during long runs, also Toyota have not used Kers at all and Vasselon says that Ferrari are right now the benchmark for them over there. No team has done any quali simulation yet so the fastest lap have been done on the end of the long runs.

Really uncertain times. Hard to tell which teams are the stronger during this pre-season testing...

I wouldn't be quiet so sure the fastest times will be at the end of the stints. Don't get me wrong, I fully expect they will be, but remember back to what it was like in the 90s - particularly the early-mid 90s when the tyre degradation was more of a factor than the fuel load. Of course there were several factors involved there which are less relevant now (such as softer rubber, heavier fuel loads until 94 which killed the tyres early on and simple things like less optimised car setups), but don't take for granted that the basic tyre rules will play out the same way they have in previous years.

Yeah you may be right, specially because where I read that it doesn't say whether
the long runs where 10 laps or 20 laps. It's a shame really that there seems to be no way to know the full stints times from Bahrain as that group seems much closer than the Jerez group. Still for what its worth Trulli almost equalled his quali time from last season, and if the weather permits it I think we might see times in the mid 1:31 tomorrow.

As far as I know, only the WDC's and team partner's car numbers are fixed by the regulations. They don't have a right to choose. For other numbers (3-23) FIA give 2 numbers to each team according to their finishing position in WCC. And each team decides which pilot takes which number. For some, they give the lower number to the pilot with more points in previous season. Some asks their pilots etc, etc.
