It looks like Donnington are in big @#$%&.

The owner is now sueing the company for unpaid rent.

I hope the government step in and help Silverstone.

Even if the government did step in and help silverstone, wouldn't make a slightest bit of difference as Bernie dosn't want to deal with the BRDC.... unless the government bought Silverstone, which won't happen ;)

Best bet for a British GP is one of two things, Donnington actually pulling off some sort of miracle and hosting the race, or a London GP.

(For London GP) The tricky part is that the GP would be held during a normal weekday most likely during rush hour. Cars aren't expected to complete more than 3 laps before the F1 race time limit is reached and starting position is vital ;).

I really do think Donnington should just forget it, it sounds like the track is in trouble and the changes needed are just going to finish them off.

We could well end up with no gp in the uk.

Firstly, it's spelt Donington not Donnington, secondly i'm more inclined to believe that Tilke has a more informed idea about what is required than Cabe, who has exactly how much experience when it comes to track design?

Has anyone seen the layout for Donington simulation. Saw it on the news earlier.

The video is on this site.

Am I the only one that think's that look's like a crap track? :/

I would much rather keep Silverstone imho.

I don't think it's specifically any worse than any others. And it does have some fairy good classic corners which will remain untouched.

The Melbourne loop part was never a particularly great part of the layout, so the addition there doesn't really a negative impact.

To be honest, looking through all the cynicism, I do actually hope they achieve all this, because I'd quite like to go to the 2010 British Grand Prix at Donington.

Alright LS. relax..... I just copied and pasted it straight from the website I saw it on... I don't know anything about the guy apart from that he works for a design watchdog, and that was only because I read it on the page.... I couldn't give a stuff if he knows anything about track design. He has a valid point of view and he's welcomed to it. so chill out! Makes a change from Donington's doomed blah blah blah.... I happen to agree to a certain level. I'd rather there not be a British GP and leave donny as it is. cracking track full of character. Tilkes just making it like any of his other projects... quite dull really.

One of the architects behind the new Donington Park grand prix circuit has promised that the revised layout will provide excellent racing.

Donington has won the contract to host the British GP from 2010, replacing long-time host Silverstone.

The Leicestershire track is undergoing a major revamp to bring it up to modern Formula 1 standards, with an all-new pit area on what is currently the back straight, leading into a fast kink and a long run down to the Melbourne Hairpin.

There is also a new plunging loop onto the infield, which includes a tightening left-hand bend..

Peter Wahl, who is a partner in Hermann Tilke's circuit design group, is confident that the new track will provide both a suitable challenge and plenty of action.

"The long straight will be very fast, but then it goes into a slow hairpin and I believe that will create the perfect overtaking place, and that is what we need, more overtaking, more excitement," he said.

"There is the new piece on the circuit infield, and that will be demanding and exciting.

"It goes downhill steeply and into a left-hander - the drivers will feel the high pressure there, and then they will have to accelerate back uphill."

Wahl said that Tilke and his colleagues had been careful to preserve Donington's character and heritage.

"Donington presented a big challenge - there are the big spectator banks, the tradition of the flowing downhill section at Craner Curves to the Old Hairpin, the racing through what is like a country garden, but then we have to provide the new sections," he said.

"We had a lot of fun - Herman is a racing driver so we added many features and are confident that the new circuit will be very good.

"It has been a task for us to maintain the tradition of the circuit with the necessary new designs but we have done it in such a way that it will be as interesting as when Ayrton Senna won the 1993 Grand Prix of Europe there in 1993, and that was the best race ever."

Despite some scepticism over Donington's chances of being ready in time for next year's race, Wahl said he had no concerns.

"I am confident that everything will be delivered on time - we Germans and British have a similar mentality when it comes to doing things and (Donington boss) Simon Gillett is good - we have a friendship and have worked strongly together," he said.

More "long straights followed by hairpins = great racing" from Tilke. They should go back to AVUS altogether and be done with it.

Drove past Donnington today in the car and I must admit, I didn't realise it until I saw the sign at the gates. It's completely anonymous in the countryside, but to be fair though, it's directly next to East Midlands airport and only about 12 miles from Nottingham. I hope the roads are improved by next year though as they're not in that good condition, quite narrow and windy country lanes and perfect for traffic jams.

Fincent,
Supposedly the only way to the circuit on race day will be via public transport and park an ride services. They have a big enough problem as it is trying to get everything ready. There's no way in hell the local roads can be upgraded in time for that.....

The biggest obstacle to that being that this is England. Where everything is late and vastly over budget.

Is the 2010 British GP even gonna happen? If things are as bad as they seem, and with Bernie so set against Silverstone, it's beginning to look bad.
[f1.gpupdate.net]

Donington owners are chasing debts from the race organisers. Although the figure isn't huge.

Damon Hill and Jackie Stewart having been making noises about getting F1 back to Silverstone if Donny can't handle it, Bernie's once more replying with a Paisley 'NO'.
