Your opinions about Audi in F1 -strictly fiction

As an audi fan I always wanted them in F1, what do you think If audi entered F1 few years back when there were rumors about it, how well do you think it would have done?
Would they be race winners by now? Like BMW? Or would they dominate already? Or would they be simply another pale coropration team like Toyota. Tell me your thoughts.

IMO there is a bit too much red on the airbox, otherwise adorable livery

It's impossible to predict how good they would be but I'd love to see them in F1. It looks like all their efforts are set on Le mans, I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

They won't enter F1, considering the VW Group just cut the budget for the Audi Le Mans project, forcing them to withdraw from LMS.

"We would have liked to participate in the LMS, particularly since we performed expansion work for the series in 2008", declared Michael Dick, head of Technical Development at Audi, at a press conference on the occasion of the Essen Motorshow. "But with a heavy heart we have to cancel the LMS commitment."

hadn't heard that. Credit crunch starts to bite i guess.

Given that Audi were winning it makes you wonder how much longer the likes of honda and toyota can go on throwing money at F1.

Though they are building a new LMP1 chassis for this year. Reckon the 908's gave them a scare last year?

Are they racing the ALMS? And if so have the ALMS regs been decided yet?

No. The R15 was always planned for this year, but it has been held up due to the new regs taking longer to go through than normal. The R10 has never been as fast as the 908, but the 908 is ran in a very French fashion - a paniced mess.

They, Peugeot should have had the 3 fastest drivers in the same car, as far as I saw at lemans they were spread out. Peugeot lost lemans all by themselves.

Has the ALMS decided on the rear wing size? Because wont the LMS and therefore le mans use the 1.6m wide rear wing. Last I heard it was still undecided what the ALMS would do.

Peugeot lost Le Mans this by themselves, the way they had built the car that there was no point in the car cooling down at any point. But Audi going from Le Mans thats like Ferrari or McLaren going from F1

Well in all honesty the LMS doesnt mean a great deal imo.

As long as they're at lemans, which they are then its fine. Audi obviously feel they are not going to make enough money from the LMS to justify racing it.

I am not very well informed as this point, so my question: If Audi retreats from LMS, does that mean they won't participate in the 24h of Le Mans either?

On topic, highly hypothetic as it is, I would love to see Audi in f1.

Yes I checked apparently no Audi in LMS for 09
But also there could be no Merkstein and lots of others.
Charouz and Racing Box will however be 2 car teams

LMS stands for Le Mans Series, this is the normal series that does 6 hour races on tracks like Barcelona, Monza and Spa. Though Le Mans the race itself doesn't count for the LMS, so stopping in the LMS doesn't mean they will stop with Le Mans, they still be driving Le Mans and ALMS (American Le Mans Series) as America seems to be the most important market of audi. Not so long ago Audi didn't participate at LMS either, the Pescarolo's where winning everything, untill Peugeot came along, then in 2008 I think it was Audi but 2 cars to LMS to challenge Peugeot.
