could be true or not, we will never know.He didn't beat Lewis last year and he didn't beat Trulli 2004 with the same car.

I pretty much agree with what Jim said about Alonso. For me too he the most complete driver on the grid. Lewis only has two things going for him, natural speed and youth. He still needs to learn how to pace himself (which granted he has started to do now), he needs to be more patient and less reckless, if he does that then he´ll be in Senna territory. Vettel, needs experience, a couple more years in F1 and he should be up their with the best. Kubica is getting there slowly. He has good speed and very good consistency, but lacks the extra something to be great. Again another couple of years and I think he will be there too.

Kimi on his day is as good as Alonso, but he´s too inconsistent and doesn´t seem to have the same determination that Alonso has. Massa on his day can be world class but again just doesn´t have the consistency to do it all the time or even most the time.

So in order,
Alonso
Kimi
Hamilton
Kubica
Massa
Vettel

But what it means "to beat"? Hamilton says he beat Alonso last year, but I see that Alonso ended races ahead of Lewis more times than the oposite. He set more fast laps and was only beaten by Lewis in Q3, because in Q2 he was also faster.

And going back to 2004 or, more than a season, first half of the season to argue than Alonso was beaten when in 2003, before the last two races, Alonso was 55-24 points against Trulli...And don't say that Trulli was deliberately slowed down by the team because we can start the same discussion about last year in McLaren and Alonso...

You mean... like Barcelona, Singapore and Fuji? ;-)

Alonso here too.

Hamilton is the best natural driver.

Stick the 2 of them in same car (a neutral one, not one in Lewisland) and I'd rip my right arm off if Alonso didn't beat him over a season.

he did quite equal with Lewis last year:
qualifying: 9-8 for Lewis
race positions: 10-7 for Fernando ( last 3 races Lewis was clearly the faster one but mistakes cost him points)
fastest race laps: 9-8 for Fernando
points : 109-109
wins: 4-4
poles: 5-3 for Lewis

2004 against Trulli:
qualifying: 8-7 for Trulli
race positions: 8-6 for Trulli
fastest race laps: 11-4 for Alonso
points:46-45 for Trulli
wins:1-0 for Trulli
poles:2-1 for Trulli

Last three races Alonso was extremely slow

But to compare him with Trulli you only use the 2004. Why the 2003 races are not valuable. Is a driver rated "by years"?, is driver "better driver" one year than the next one? Overall, I would say Alonso definetely beat Trulli despite in 2004 the italian did a great start of the season and put things very difficult for Alonso.

Yes but lewis was in his 1st year alonso was not :)

If you just use stats then kimi looks really bad this year lol.

I never think you can use stats as it never takes into account things out the drivers control.

This year's best driver?

For me absolutely Hamilton, he's got speed, guts en overtaking qualities like Senna did. He is reminding me a lot of him, always the one that was targeted because he did everything to end up at the highest podium. No hesitations, goin' for the position. I think even Schumi didn't have the same leve of 'guts' like him. All those 'stupid' rules nowadays. Who doesn't love to see the legendary fights between men like Prost/Senna, Mansell/Senna, name them. Changing lines only ones..? Get the h#ll out a here! :-) This is racing!

Next to Lewis is say Kubica did the best this year. He has equipment that doesn't equal the top two McLaren and Ferrari. If he had driven one of those he would have taken the championship maybe, Alonso style. Grabbing points.

Third...mmm...hard to say. Vettel has shown his potential even more than last years races, really grown.

So to sum up:

Lewis Hamilton
Robert Kubica
Sebastian Vettel

Firstly i think Hamilton has been the best racer to watch this year, once again overtaking people and bringing some agressive moves back to F1. However, he is the most exciting driver but not the best driver.

In equal cars i can see 2 people being the 'best' drivers:

Kubica - The guy is amazing, i think in an equal car he would show the big two teams why he is such an asset.

Button - A disapointing season on the points front, still one of the best drivers in the field by a long way, i think with Honda hoping to be more competitive he can proove that he can pull off amazing results while not in the best car

Has to be Lewis you have to take in to account his Age and Experiance

Second will be Kimi or Alonso

Third Kubica he has been good but not outstanding

Still Think Webber/Button/Rosberg are great and need their teams to pull the finger out
