Looks like a glorified version of Bahrain. Interesting looking backdrops though.

Nothing wrong with that IMO. Bahrain always has good races.

I will never understand why people like Bahrain.

On the face of it it's a soulless track. But it does tend to create a fairly good race, so it earns it's merits.

its a nice track, though on the wrong place, the desert let the track looks quite dull, it should have more to see next to the track, something abu dhabi looks like they wanna create that exact look.

The braking points @ Bahrain are bloody annoying. so many straights and no challenge at all.

Annoying braking points -> mistakes -> good race

I wouldn't say such mistakes make for a good race as such, more that those mistakes should be easier to make. That we need long straights to encourage such mistakes is where the problem is.

It's why Singapore was like a breath of fresh air. Stuff the whole night thing (good as it was IMO), it had bumps and the track instant character. Despite everyone saying overtaking would be hopelessly impossible, it didn't work out that way. It was a challenge to overtake, which is how it should be, but due to the nature of the track it was possible.

As much as I love true fast tracks (Monza and the old Hockenheim), just adding a long straight to an otherwise standard track is simply nudging around the problem rather than correcting it. If a track has a long straight then there need to be several more to ensure that speed is what the track is about.

Frankly, they just need to get back to basics regarding tracks. So long as Tilke has his way making shiny, silky-smooth pussies tracks, then we'll get poor races, regardless of cars. Not necessarily more or less overtaking, but overtaking doesn't make a race, not when it's been artificially built into a track, if you see what I mean.

to me the ingredients for a good race are thus:

A backmarker punching above its weight
UNPREDICTIBILITY (in bold cos it's the most important in my view)
some brilliant overtaking - the do or die, i can brake later than you, woops i went deep, etc etc variety, not just a draft pass on a straight (with exception of Massa's Japan overtake)
some rain at some point (mixes things up a bit-aids point two)

I like the times where you're watching a gap and it's coming down a little each lap, and the tension that creates etc. Singapore was interesting due to the bumps, Fuji was nice too (stuff Suzuka if fuji can give us that kind of race)...

Back OT, not sure what to make of Abu Dhabi... looks like another contrived effort like Valencia - ie a waste of space just to publicise a backwards country in the middle of nowhere (spain already has a GP, thus making Valencia pointless)

One of the most tense battles i've ever seen was Japan 1994...and the cars in question weren't fighting together on the track. But that was definitly the exception rather than the norm.

I followed F1 religiously in the 90's and early 2000's...but i feel Formula 1 has evolved a lot even since then and i feel a little left behind...even the classic tracks have moved on...only silverstone and monza appear to have that same feel as they did 10-20 years ago.

Having said that, new tracks like Abu Dhabi...i question the choice of location as i feel formula 1 needs to be where the fans are...but these tracks do look good. Singapore looked fantastic, (although i just kept picture the 95 williams, bennettons and ferraris under this lights....thinking about it, the 95 ferrari would have looked particurly good in a night race). At least these new tracks create a bit of an unknown each year.

To be completely fair, 2008 has seen MUCH more overtaking action and close on-track battles than 2006 or 2007. I genuinely feel as though it has become easier to overtake this year - though not excessively so. It still requires skill, but it is now possible.

How much that is to do with the tracks, I don't know. But if the 2009 regulations really DO aid overtaking, then IMHO we should be in for a treat.

Dull appearance of it is the only reason why I rate it higher than for example Turkey.. All new tracks since Sepang (excluding USA) have more or less same architectur and overall appearance.

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?
