Hope this is true and becomes permanent. Will stop most arguments. Still think they need to come up with a measure to treat chicanes as any other corner, without a get-out-of-jail-free card, but I can't think of a way of adopting one.

this will only bring chaos.

I will never understand why is it so hard to put pile of tyres there.

a bit of an over-reaction really. they tried this in v8 supercars a year or two ago and it didn't really work.

it could be chaotic, especially on the first lap, when several cars may go wide at the start.

This must be a joke.

This is not due to the lewis thing btw this is due to the constant chicane cutting that took place at other races including monza.

It will just stop people trying to pass.

this is a joke... they could just put the asphalt + tungsten thing they use @ Paul Ricard (The blue/red stripes)... it will slow down the cars.

Anyway Gui asked me to post it :)

I personally dont want to see chicanes like that. I still think that the Paul Ricard solution is better.

There is no news of this anywhere else, not even f1.com or the FIA site.

true, even F1 Live doesn't have it and that get the news straight away. Still this is utter stupidness. I mean if you're behind everyone like bourdais was last race, and cut a chicane you get DQ'ed?

I think this is a joke
Maybe I'm missing something here but why not just put gravel traps on the inside of chicanes? Will slow the cars down enough to negate any advantage gained by cutting the chicane.

What about in the rain if you lock a brake, thats not really something you can help.

I'm convinced that Paul Ricard run-offs are the solution.

from Wiki

"The track is known for its distinctive black and blue runoff areas known as the Blue Zone, which is used instead of gravel traps of other circuits, the runoff surface consists of a mixture of asphalt and tungsten.[1] Should that not prevent the car from stopping, there is the Red Zone, a more abrasive run off area, which would require a car to return to the pits for a new tyre. Also, rather than a tyre barrier, a Tecpro barrier[1]"

from FIA Institute

The surfaces are varying blends of asphalt and tungsten, designed specifically to intensify the slowing down and stopping effect on cars. Gurdjian says: “The more we run on the track the more we are convinced of the efficiency of this system. It also looks better than other tracks.”

He insists this type of run-off system increases safety, reduces the intervention time of the rescue teams and reduces damage to the car. As he puts it: “The gravel trap makes a lot of damage on the car. When teams test at other circuits and the car goes into the gravel trap, that’s it, they spend the rest of the day fixing it. At Paul Ricard, you may damage the tyres but you change them and carry on. It is the first track in the world to try to find new solutions like this.”

I dont think its true, by now we would have heard more about it.

They have probably been told the same as at Monza, if you pass with more than 2 wheels off the track you must give it back.

Corner 2 and 10-12 are not even over taking spots. Ok you might be able to pass into corner 1 but will be very risky and corner 10 just no way.

If you went off at corner 2 I dont see how you would gain time anyway its dust and you would need to slow down.

If you messed up corner 10 the chances are you would be in the wall.

You do realize that the paint at Paul Ricard is there to slow SPINNING cars? It wont stop a car rolling over the top of it......

So it has nothing to do with this thread.

Stick a gravel trap or a tyre barrier in the middle of a chicane. Then they'll slow down for it. And if they lose control and try to 'duck across', well they've lost control and hit a barrier. No argument.
