Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on May 9th - Track Walk (56k)

Posted by Briere
Hi peeps,

On last Friday, I finally came to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for a photo walk with my true digital camera :) I took a total of 182 photographs, but I'll post only a "small" batch here ;-) 85 is still a lot I guess :)

Out of the metro station, we have a little walk towards the track

Great view on the Biosphere

Those who've already been to the Canadian GP have seen this, but much more crowded ;)

View on the bridge that crosses the St. Lawrence River

Yay ! I'm now on track.

View from G34

The old Control Tower

Lots of people were doing some rowing that day

Sun is shining near the Casino

Laying on the asphalt, I took this photograph to show how high kerbs are in the final chicane

Time flies by, but crash marks don't ;)

Look how deep that gravel trap is

The main Grandstand is not finished yet

Detail on how grandstands are built there

Salut Gilles, as seen from Charlie Whiting's spot

The camera facing podium will be on that stand

Workers working on corporate suites

Impressive view on turns 1 and 2. Looks like a stadium

Turn 1 as seen from G12

Some alphalt laid down in turn 1's run off

Look at that uneven terrain

Lying on the asphalt, you can see how track actually raises at that point

Soon to be RBS ad with the primer coat on

Nice, nut somehow blurry, view on Montréal's downtown

Love is in the air :)

Turns 3 and 4, downhill

Turn 4 as seen for turn 3's apex

Frentzen knows that wall very well

Huge height difference between those 2 kerbs

Turn 5

Looking back to turn 4's exit, while a truck comes towards me ;)

Turn 5 through the trees

New wall on the outside of turn 5, which is a year old now

That Sentra is flying !!!! 8O

Montréal through the trees (nice contrast between indutrialization and nature)

Little park with flowers and a wooden bridge along the straight before turn 8

I saw lots of those that day

Piece of kerb I found behind one of the permanent concrete walls

The Bridge through the trees

Workers putting fence poles in place

Overtaking action !

Almost under the bridge

The river is flowing well under the bridge

As seen from the TV camera

Some paint work

the next walk bridge is held partly with those concrete blocks

G24

Giant screens' structure is complete...

...with the help of this crane

The hairpin from G15

When you look back, you can see how low you are

Now looking down the hairpin from the highest point of G15

Looking back at the Jacques-Cartier Bridge

And now the Biosphere

W.I.P Bridgestone logo

Now being worked on

While this guy does a precise job and places makes the logo with tape

Note the height difference between the kerb and the track

Another view on an uneven terrain

10 meters farther

The hairpin seen from the top of the old control tower (note the Olympic Stadium's tower on the right)

Back straight seen through the control tower

More rowing

An aircraft is about to land

I took this photo of the Olympic Basin and noticed, after transfering on the PC, a dead fish :o

Worker drilling on the floating platform behind garages

Mitsubishi Eclipse

I can now say that I've been in the Paddock Club zone ;)

Back straight as seen from the TV camera spot

Commentators booth had only just started being built

The infamous Casino

My bag and my shadow

Bridgestone logo

The old Control Tower and a cyclist

Hi !

I love those truck so much :)

Workers working on G22, where I sat in 2005

Another truck

This is where we get opur tickets checked when heading for the island

Cute bird

Parc Jean-Drapeau map

I'm a little late I guess ;)

The Jean-Drapeau metro station

The train is coming

I hope you'll enjoy those pics as much as I did my walk :)
That's a very nice gallery. I hope you had a great day. :)

Now that's a track guide, well done!
stunning track walk briere, great photos! very informative :) Together with Imola and other tracks, Montreal is one of my favorites, I love how fast and flowing the track is.

Cool guide and photos there! :D Thankyou!

I will have to get a copy of my mum and dads pics they took the other week when they went to monaco, they start like a month or two months early getting the track ready, its so so sooooo narrow!

Jenson drives it like he owns it; Lewis drives it like he stole it
Nice work, I always like that kind of pictures from (semi) streetcircuits being transformed from normal road to f1 circuit.

you're right about monaco, went for the weekend about 3 years ago. reckon it was about 2 weeks before the race. pretty much all the barriers and grandstands were up by then. got some nice pics of the track, and got to stand on the podium! well worth a visit.

dunno about you but it found it really quite strange wandering around somewhere you've seen on the tv so many times, especially when you see it in a pre or post grand prix state.
Great collection this Math, enjoyed this very much. Thanks :)
excellent pictures, well done!

When I watch anything related to Monaco I think of the shops, the restaurants and the places you can go to but that are closed by the walls and adverts, a really cool feeling though :D
Thanks a bunch for sharing these! :)

Great stuff Briere, but what is the function today of the old pits control tower?

I'm a total dick. How many people can say that?
I guess it's a decorative device ;) No seriously, I don't know.
Very cool my favorite track, doesn't some of it look just a little run down though?
Thanks for sharing!
One question: which is the name of the closest metro station to the circuit?
Jean Drapeau, in the middle of the Yellow Line :)
