Today was the first day of testing at Barcelona. I saw this picture. I believe it is Pedro De La Rose testing a possible McLaren 2009 aero setup. For more pictures go to www.f1racing.nl

Looks like it (the slick tyres are a bit of a give away ;-)), but they'll have to lose all the flip-ups and winglets too. Guess they're just getting some data together so they know how to progress with the car with regards to weight positioning and so on - the critical basics.

Looking sexy so far, will be even better without the flip-ups :)

Wings are same or really similiar compared to ones used in that race.

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

Just a low downforce config with slicks. Can't wait to see the cars shorn of all their ugly winglets and flip ups.

It really looks like the same spec as the car they tested earlier this year in jerez (couldn't find a good picture of it).

A mp4-22 Monza Spec. At least a low downforce spec. I cannot imagine they would test 2009 features on a 2007 car, surrounded by most of all the other teams...

The wings belong to the 2007 car but the chassis is the MP4-23

At least the nose is mp4-22 also then. For the rest of the car, i couldn't tell.

Yes the nose looks like the MP4-22 but if you take a look at the airbox, you can see that it's the MP4-23 chassis

hehe that's far beyond my reaches of looking for details. ;) But i am convinced you're right, as it would be a bit strange to still use a 2007 Macca.

I think its somekind of monza setting, to try and immitate the lack of downforce in 2009.

So the FIA IS banning flip-ups and winglets?

As far as I know. Isn't that confirmed then? I really should start paying attention.

I think so yes. All I know is that I hate them. I like the idea of the 1996-97 cars without this fangly bits.

Then before the Sepang GP I was just thinking to myself how F1 should ban them when Stop The Cock-man himself mentioned they were being banned! :o

Made me wonder if I knew about it and forgot or if I didn't. ;)

I read a while back that they are only going to go back to slicks if the engineers can definetly prove that the cars will loose enough downforce. I kind of hope they can lose a fair chunk so eau rouge and other lost challenges are restored.
