'McLaren get fifth slot in paddock'

McLaren have been spared the ignominy of having the last garage in the paddock, ostensibly for logistical reasons.

With the order of the garages dictated by Constructors' Points, the British outfit were supposed to be housed in the last garage after being stripped of their points due to the Stepneygate scandal.

However, Autosport reports that Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen will be housed in the fifth garage.

It is believed that the FIA realised that it was impractical for McLaren's massive motorhome to be placed at the end of the pitlane.

Now we know

So what if Super Aguri or Force India decide to get a new motorhome and it happens to be bigger than Mclarens?

I agree its wrong but the teams agreed to it all apart from BMW, Williams and Renault or they would have got the 2nd garage.

tbh I care more about what happens on the track than what pit garage the teams have. The team in the 3rd garage should not be there anyway.

I am trying to forget all the crap from last year and just hope we have a good year.

I am sure had it been Ferrari half the people here would have said it was a good thing.

For some reason I am finding each year harder and harder to get motivated for the new year.

It's crap, if the logistics are that important they should've just told McLaren to get a smaller motorhome. They're sanitising the penalty for no good reason. It defeats the whole purpose of imposing it in the first place.

They obviously did it for a reason, and it hardly affects us! Why complain? Enjoy the sport that we have

Because it's bending the rules for no reason. The only reason the FIA gave was that the McLaren motorhome wouldn't fit. Which is what annoys people and I can understand that. McLaren were punished for the spy-case and DQ'ed from 2007. That also means the last slot in the pitlane. Period.

Theres no reason to allow them this leaway. Tough as it is for them, they aren't about to loose sponsers because of it.

Though my key issue is the phrase "Autosport has learned..."

I don't think it's in the sports interest to prevent McLaren from setting up their motorhome when there is enough room further up the paddock for it to be placed. It is well known that the motorhome is a big attraction for the VIP guests at each weekend so it probably benefits the series as a whole. If none of the other teams mind then I see no problem with this.

I don't think it matters where they are tbh, but that last line made me laugh out loud!!

The FIA probably arranged this.

Mclaren have suffered enough, they got penalised its done now they need to rebuild and its no good if they can not entertain the people that give them money.

What would people rather have a fight for the championship or shall we just give it to Ferrari now? would people rather that.

This pit move does not hurt anyone I dont see why people are making a big deal out of it are u that bored?

I doubt the FIA arranged this at all, i'm sure it has more to do with Bernie pulling strings to keep various sponsors and the super rich happy when they come to visit.
As long as the other teams are ok with it it's fine in my book.

What a load of bollocks, the rules should be the same for everyone. Mclaren should be in the last garages and made to downsize.
