what happened to the plans of introducing laterla grooves to the tyres they were talking about a couple of seasons ago? the dry tryes would look aweful with grooves all over them.

Putting in lateral groves can create a vibration effect depending on the speed. Something which is not good for the car, or the driver

will only understeer if going too fast for the traction of the fronts. Thus...slower cars/lap times

Going by this logic, there is no such thign as understeer, simply going to fast. This is of course not the case. Putting in groves isnt the answer to everything. The tyre comapnies will just make the tyre softer, and that will cancel out the effect, and more

cut the engine capacity and ban refueling, 1 tyre manufacturer, branded differently if necisary

i say

Reduce downforce dramaticly, higher topspeads yes, but will then add more wing for corners

SLICKS.

bring back slicks its what they should be.

increase the ride height of the car - more air less suction to the ground.

Yeah, there is still way too much under body aero affecting teh car, even without ground effect of the late 80's the cars these days just suck themselves to the road like a vaccum cleaner....

ground effect was banned in the early 80s, maybe you are refering to the flat bottoms?

No he wasnt, thats why teams use diffusers, to equalise the air

uh he mentions that the cars dont have ground affect...

they need to do something regarding the aero to slow them do i think, as i stated above, thats where allot of speed is coming from.

2.5 litre V8s!? OMG this has been my suggestion for the past 2 years!!

Finally the FIA are listening to me lol!! Although I doubt my monthly letter of suggestion had anything to do with it hehe :)

My next suggestion: place restrictions on the COMPUND of the tyre so that it creates less grip when cornering. Here we would get slower cornering speeds but no loss of mechanical grip in a straight line, so overtaking is not hampered.

As an added bonus for spectators, it would be a little easier to spin in corners and would thus require greater driver skill.

yep just read in f1 racing mag that there could be plans for 2.5L V8's in '08.

stop messing with rear wings and increasing speeds, start reducing the front wing. you've seen how slow cars go when the lose their front wing. reduce the front end grip and cornering speeds would drop dramatically.

just a suggestion. i dont really mind if they dont do anything for now

how to slow F1?

what about different brakes, only two wings (no side wings, cars would look like in early 90s), reduce engine HP to 750 (like in rally to 300hp), biger rear wing

That's it :)

or they could take away modern F1 cars and make them all use pedal cars...

One thing that always confuses me is when the FIA try and slow the cars round the corners, they make them faster down the straights. Narrower cars in 1998, narrower tyres, less downforce - they all make the car faster in the stragiht, so when something does wrong under braking for example you have a bigger accident.

I personally think they'd be best of leaving the cars aeros alone cos every change makes them look a bit more stupid, and less racing car like. Smaller engines and slick harder tyres would be my vote.

how nice and simple/clean the cars looked in '97, without all those little aero bits all over the sidepods, especially the FW19.

slicks on the back, 5 grooves on the front

like Dave said this would cause massive understeer, how about doing it the other way round so they get the back end out :P

Another way to reduce engine power is to do what they do in F3, the things that comeout of the engine cover are air boxes, small ones, if they had normal ones F3 cars could go VERY VERY fast in a straight line.

Also you could have a limit to how much the teams are allowed to angle the rear wing. And the diffuser size (the main part the produces the most downforce), reduce that.

And i still stick by my word by saying 1 TYRE COMPANY!! I mean if it was just michelin then they (michelin) would not have to worry about making their tyres faster because of bridgestone. If F1 had 1 tyre company then there would not be rivalry trying to beat on another. And if the tyres were standard and only had 2 compounds (soft and hard) (and of course inters and wets) all the way through the season and no developing then testing time would massivley be reduced!

About 70%-80% of testing is tyre testing!!

Slower cars and less testing, therefore less money spent!
