it's a little bit too late to apologise...but looks like there was more going on then they even knew so they are now really scared and that's why they make this apologise so they wouldn't get banned.will see if this is good enough...I hope so.

if u read the letter its about next years car and things they were going to put on it and are not now.

As i said before renault should have also had next years car checked.

The thing is though what happens if mclaren want to develop the idea's maybe they can never use stuff they wanted to even if they had been working on it before the ferrari thing.

Will ferrari agree to the letter.

That must have really hurt Ron to have to agree to a letter like that being sent. But lets hope that is the end of it but in the letter they have given other teams ideas like the co2 in tyres lol tbh it should just be normal air that we all have to use.

I think they came very close to getting a ban next year and management had no idea these things were going on the car.

Lets see what happens next

This afternoon the McLaren Mercedes team apologised to the FIA, World Motor Sport Council - amongst others - for its role in the industrial espionage scandal that rocked the series this year.

This evening, the FIA took a conciliatory tone in that a line can now be drawn underneath the whole 'spy' saga and that McLaren can start its 2008 campaign afresh.

This is good news for the sport heading into the Christmas break, as the team and its very eligibility for the 2008 season had been under question following record fines and an exclusion from the ’07 championship. The following is a press release from the FIA.

"In the light of McLaren's public apology and undertakings, the FIA President [Max Mosley] has asked the members of the World Motor Sport Council for their consent to cancel the hearing scheduled for 14 February 2008 and, in the interests of the sport, to consider this matter closed.

"In the interests of transparency a redacted copy of the Report by the FIA Technical Department to the World Motor Sport Council is attached to this press statement [link below]."

Finally this sordid affair looks to be coming to and end.

Still waiting for the FIA to apologise for the 2007 season, to be honest.

But the whole thing shouldn't come to an end; specially if McLaren planned to use Ferrari data

Omg I am so shocked (and propably 99% of us).. :P

Maybe bit late to say sorry now. Time for that wouldnt have been when it was already known by everybody that they have Ferrari data..

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

Well its all out in the open now and the punishment to mclaren was right though they should not have been allowed to race.

I think Ron will stand down now the integrity of the team is finished its going to take along time before people trust them again.

It is clear that the top management had no idea this was going on at the lower level, teams are just to big now days.

I still think the renault car should be looked at as well, i am sure mclaren could push for this but they probably just want it over.

Yeah I agree marcl, Renault should be getting the same treatment as McLaren and be getting inspected etc :) otherwise Alonso may end up driving the same car he did this year ;) .

Either way, it's good that the top people involved have both asked to seek closure and finally it seems like this whole messy business might be over and we might be able to get back to some good proper racing....then again, this is F1.

McLaren copied Ferrari, Renault copied McLaren = Alonso's Renault F1 car will be what Kimi drove in 2007 ;)

I read a couple of days ago that Renault was found guilty of being in possesion of information regarding the 2004 McLaren and that the FIA had exhaustively studied Renault's development of their 2007 car (R27), finding no use of McLaren data whatsoever.
I think Renault is clean, and their case is in no way similar to what happened with McLaren

2004 Mclaren?
The 19 or 19B?

Either way, its 3 year old data... would they really expect to find anything on the Renault?

One would think so. Renault first had that confidential information in late 2006. If they were to use it, they would have used it for the development of the R27.

Renault's case closely resembles the Ferrari-Toyota saga. A former employee in breach of their confidentiality agreements regarding Intellectual Property.

The fact that the FIA has now 'closed the case' shows that the whole carry-on was down to a petty dislike between Max and Ron. There has always 'beef' between them because Max is from 'good stock';(In his own eyes, imho, he's just the son of a nazi) and Ron is just a spanner-monkey who got lucky. Mclaren would have been told that if they make a public apology, they can put the spygate saga to bed. So, Mclaren have bitten the bullet and taken the humiliation just to get off the hook. Im not saying that they were intending on using Ferrari data on thier new car, but im sure Max's inspectors would have 'found' enough to justify penalising them.

If the FIA truley belived that they had cheated, they would still be checking the new car.
