Funnily enough, it's being reported that the car was a Mercedes. SPY SCANDAL!

Speed limits in Germany

copy/paste from another forum.

In cities and towns, the speed limit (Tempolimit) is 50 km/h (31 mph) unless otherwise posted.

In the last decade or so, the "30-Zone" has gained great popularity. These are residential areas with a posted 30 km/h (18 mph) speed limit to protect children and pedestrians who live in the neighborhood.

On normal two-lane highways the limit is 100 km/h (62 mph). Cars towing trailers must stay under 80 km/h (50 mph).
The autobahn has a "suggested" speed limit of 130 km/h (80 mph)

No he had already picked up his dog. He was in a rush to catch a flight. Although considering he has his own private jet I'm scratching my head over this story lol

From the reports I've read he wasn't really over speeding, only driving faster than the cab driver who apparently was really slow. I don't agree with speeding either. But I don't like slow.

I couldn't agree more. Instead of having a laugh at this funny story, people bitch about how dangerous he was driving, while they don't even know what MS exactly did. Besides, what was said is that he drove full throttle. Is that full throttle when accelerating from the traffic lights, or still full throttle when you are already on 100 mph? Who said it was in a city? So maybe he was speeding, but that definately isn't the same as dangerous driving. And do you really think he'd 'put his family and cab driver in danger like that', as in overtaking with only centimeters left before crashing into a lorry? I think he's smart enough not to.

As I said before it is not a good messege to be sending out to people, there are people that look up to him.

I have my views you have yours simple as that.

Also did he have insurance as I know a few cab drivers in the UK and only they can drive the cab so was his insurance vailid?

I am probably looking at it to much anyway, I just did not think it was funny or clever when I read it.

People have lobbied the same complaint at Top Gear, how it encourages unsafe driving etc... I've seen on this forum people calling it BS when it comes to Top Gear.

I'm sure MS won't make a habit of this. Its a funny story and I bet the cabby was happy enough with it. MS isn't stupid, I'm sure he wouldn't do anything to endanger his family and some stranger.

People are far to serious, whether he was going to fast or not, im pretty sure ms can handle a txi ona road without putting his family in danger, not always speed that kills its poor driving. Just read the thread and laugh ;)

speed limits on british motorways are there coz Le Mans teams (Shelby specifically) used to use them for top speed tests
