Well, after Renault's clearance, this announcement was as inevitable as a sunrise.
Personally I would have kept Kovalainen because it looked like he was really starting to build some momentum if F1, also the continuity would have been nice too.

Should be an interesting line up then at Renault and McLaren. Will be intruiging to see how Alonso does in a non frontrunning team again (provided it isnt a McLaren replica ) and also to see how Piquet Junior gets on as I don't rate him that highly. Seems likely that Kovy will go to McLaren now doesn't it? Ron Dennis must have a thing for Finnish drivers, lol, but maybe Hamilton and Kovy might turn out to be the new Coulthard and Hakkinen?

Yet another new guy for alonso to try and beat, Piquet and Lewis were very close in GP2 so it will be interesting to see what happens.

good to see this finally complete. all we need now is the force india line-up and we have a complete field. i wonder how many sponsors Alonso has managed to lure to (or back to) Renault

I think Fissi will end up at Force India and Pedro at Mclaren.

hopefully fernando brings "6 tenths" with him to renault, really good to see a fight between those three as well

so it definately looks like kovalainen to mclaren

2008's going to be awesome! even mix of top drivers in the top 4 cars! only rosberg and jenson are missing out

Well this could be a boon or a blow for Kovy, curious to see where he ends up.

I think you're probably right. Pity about Kovalainen though. Seems silly to drop him after watching his continuous improvement through-out the year.

Kovalainen said he don't want to be 2nd driver for Alonso or anyone that's why he wont contiune with Renault...anyways Kovalainen will end up in Toyota and replace Jarno Trulli..it will be confirmed very soon.

sounds interesting, why doesn't he go to mclaren? surely he would be as good or better than anyone else still available

well McLaren had lot's of interest towards Heikki after season but since then that interes has gone down. According to finnish press Heikki has signed a multiple year deal with Toyota and will replace Jarno Trulli.I hope that he will end up to McLaren but seems unlikely.

Toyota confirmed Trulli and Glock for his cars and remember that McLaren gives the same priority to both of his drivers

Trulli will be dropped to a testdriver if Heikki will go there.Heikki just gave an interview few minutes ago and said he has 2 options that are better than Renault (Toyota and McLaren).

I think that Glock will be a test driver if Heikki goes to Toyota, because Trulli has a lot of experience and Glock not, but to mid-year Trulli will be dropped because the results I think

But I hope that Heikki will go to McLaren

and lol@better than renault... he must have meant ferrari and mclaren.
otherwise he must be taking whatever flavio is, you know that stuff which made him sign piquet over heikki...

may sound mean, but i do hope piquets f1 career starts and ends this season !

Heikki gave an interview for finnish television channel MTV3 ..... and well Toyota would be better because he gets more money from them ;p and Heikki didn't leave Renault because of Piquet...he left because they took Alonso ,Heikki doesn't want to be a 2nd driver for any team he wants an equal status and treatment and Renault said earlier they will favour Alonso .
