Ok, I have a couple of F1 cars with more than 4 wheels, I know that some cars are fake, but I don´t know which ones :( And I wanna give you some information, too ;)

Tyrrell P34 (1976):

Tyrrell P34 (1977):

Pat Clancy Special (Indianápolis 1957):

These are the unique cars that ran in a official F1 race, but there are many other invents:

Ferrari 312 T6 (1976/1977):

March 240 (1977):

Lotus 77 (Fake) (1976):

Lotus 72 (;)More fake than the 6-wheeled 77!;)) (197?)

Ferrari 312 T8 (Super-Fake) (1976):

Williams FW08B (1982):

What the f**k is this??? :o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:

That are the cars that I have, if you have anyone and it isn´t in this list, please post it :)

4+ generally meanings, including 4, so uh, how about the 1998 Williams, for example? :P (yes, being pedantic)

The Williams renders there were created when a magazine asked Williams "What would a F1 car look like with no rules". It's still a bit odd in that he went with a low downforce (and almost zero drag) front CART oval wing, and kept the grooved tyres.

Werent the rules back to when ground effect was still about, and wasnt it primarilary groundeffect ?
so the engine and tyres still had to be 2004 spec.

And im srue you can remember once the teams really started windtunnel test properly, they optimimised the groundeffects so much so that a front wing wasnt needed, hense why alot of the cars didnt have them lol.

Isnt that why alot of the group c cars front splitters were pretty small and as basic as possible... ?

edit - nissan p34 (i think it is) is one example.

edit 2- that ferrari 312 t6 looks fake.

edit 3 - yeah, i remember it was based on some 2004 regulations... otherwise wouldnt the wheels be covered... i think it was apparently able to lap silverstone 10seconds quicker or something...

*waits for muks to post article ;-)*

The Ferrari 312 T6 is real. The Ferrari 312 T8 is not.

I read the article I think it would have been more like 30 sec faster at Silverstone. A big front wing wasn't needed because apparently the whole car acted like a giant wing.

That's what ground effect is yeah. The little wing will help channel air, similar to the CART oval wings which only reduce drag on the wheels, not create downforce.

30 seconds faster at Silverstone would require the drivers to wear a G-suit.

It´s like the Colin Chapman "wing car" concept

EDIT: but more developed

i've been wanting to post the article for ages but my scanner is very temperamental. i got it for free from my sister's work friend when he bought a new one, but have never been able to get it to work consistently. i can sometimes get 1 or 2 scans from it, then it freezes and doesn't work again. have had it for about 3 years and have got about 5 scans from it in that time.

have decided to finally throw it away the next time i go to the dump (recycling plant in case any ecomentalists are reading ;)), and maybe buy a new one.

surely someone else has the magazine and a scanner though? if not, i'll photograph it and post it later.

It did mention that, I cant remember whether they said drivers would actually need one or not though. Come on Muks! ;)

Given that it would probably be pulling 6G through some corners, I'm going to say you will need it. Bearing in mind that the average Joe on the streets can withstand a constant of around 1.3-2 latitudinal G before they start to pass out.

It was silverstone where Monty got 5G, not sure what corner it was though.

I see a problem with that Williams...those wing mirrors are superfluous, although they tend to be on a normal F1 car anyway, from what we're led to believe.

Would be awesome if they actually made it lol. Obviously it would never happen, but would be nice to let the designers free of the FIAs constraints ;) just to see what they could really do!

hello guys. just to let you know i bought a scanner on Monday from Ebuyer (Canon CanoScan LiDE 25), it was scheduled to be delivered on the following Monday (super-saver option) but for some unknown reason they upgraded the order and sent it yesterday and it got delivered today.

not had time to play with it yet but will scan the Williams article and post it later or tomorrow.

right, here it is *fanfare and drumroll please*:

the article's from the December 2003 issue:

and here are the 7 pages of the article:

Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4, Page 5, Page 6, Page 7.

and as it's a very rare occurance, i scanned this page of Kimi smiling: Click

and a couple of pages especially for Chetson Button (may interest others too), a plan view of all the parts used in the BAR 005: BAR 1, BAR 2.

(just some tech notes, the Williams scans were done at 300dpi, took about 1 minute each (seemed like foreeeeever waiting), and original size for them was 2552x3508, but Photobucket downsized any that were over 1MB, that only happened with Page 4 and 7. the BAR ones were only done at 150dpi as i couldn't be arsed waiting so long :))

hope you appreciate them!
